Am I being dim?

I bought an outdoor tap kit from Screwfix the other day and in the instructions it states I need to use a 16mm masonry drill bit to create the hole for the tap pipe to fit through but the only drill I have states 1-10mm... so how do I drill the hole? do I need to get a larger drill?

 

Well that is the chuck size, what are you drilling though?

If its concrete you will need a good SDS hammer drill.

On brick you might get by with a hammer drill, often the ends are tapered down to fit a half inch chuck.

Not sure, you might find a masonry drill bit that is suitable for 10 mm but I'm not sure you will.

 

Are you going through the house wall, if so its atleast 10 inches

 

You will need a 16mm long drill bit is you drill SDS/normal chuck ? this ones for a normal chuck.

call a plumber to fit it .

 

I'd go down the hire shop and tell them what you want to do, they will sort you out.

 

Yes I agree, but I dont think a cordless 18volt would be man enough to get through.

It needs a decent SDS to do it, in my opinion.

 

I do have a non cordless hammer drill somewhere if that would be better? I think it's probably the same chuck size though, I'll go take a look

 

To put it into perspective, I have and 18v cordless that I use for putting in screws, its got a hammer on it, but never understood why.
