I wish we had more geologists like this speaker. Easy to understand and hilarious. Hope his views will make you think about just how much we are having to pay in increased electricity prices etc for what seems to me to be complete twaddle. Personally I think wind "factories" will been seen as the biggest "white elephants" of my generation by those in the future.https://www.youtube.com/embed/iEPW_P7GVB8

Of course there wasnt any climate change ,global warming etc according to governments/mega corporations until they realised they could raise prices and tax the masses accordingly by scaring them about the impending doom.
The earth heats up the earth cools down, always has done always will,we`ve just speededup the process thats all.
Of course when the methane hydrates begin to be released by our oceans and in Russia`s Siberia then it will game over ...................................................................................
On that cheery note im off to fire up the BBQ. Havea good weekend All.:spinning:

Whether you believe in climate change or not, the fact remains it took millions of years to make the coal and oil through natural processes, and barely more than a couple of hundred to burn it all.

As an aside, I saw something on telly a while ago about oceans of hydrocarbons on titan. Some chap asked the boffins if we could collect it to solve our fuel crisis. The boffin was ready for the question. He said yes it would. Then all we'd need to do is find enough oxygen to burn it, because there isn't anywhere near enough in our atmosphere.

I think it all adds up to a single simple message. Whether you believe in climate change or not, our current energy usage is simply not sustainable.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. It always amazes me that folks are willing to take the chance, because they want absolute proof that our activities are causing global warming. I always have this image of someone sticking up two fingers, whilst water laps at their door.

No ones (UK) seriously interested in reducing the energy thats used in this country. A bit of insulation to a few houses and some solar panels but thats been about it.
We were lucky to install solar panels before the tariffs were scrapped. On target to generate c.3200kwh this year. Just imagine how much could be generated if all suitable roofs had these fitted rather than now using farm land to site solar farms.
In the city Id guess about 95% of houses dont have panels which is such a wasted opportunity.

I don't know the 'ins and outs' of it, but there seems to be a problem about who owns the roof. I recently heard of someone having problems selling their house. It needs sorting out.

Personally I think it's more a case of, our world population is not sustainable.
Its not just about energy, its about the planet being taken over by one species for its own ends.

Good point. I think it's fair to say that we could do a lot more to make things more sustainable though. Our own worst enemy...

Hi Freddy, nice to see you back.:blue thumb:

You mean more "tinkering", because if you dont tackle the population problem you are just putting off the inevitable. ;)

                  Thanks Pete :blue thumb:

I remember some years ago it was stated as a fact, that the worlds population could be fitted on the Isle Of Wight, with room left over. I suppose the point is we don't utilise the space we have. Of course, population growth can't go on forever. So, to that end, I won't be having any more kids

                    Well that's that sorted.
We will put them all on the Isle of Wight.

It'll give me a bit more allotment space.

Here in my province we have no coal burning electricity generators. We have switched to either nuclear, gas or expensive solar and expensive and useless wind turbines that make people ill and kills lots of birds. And every time we cut our usage, the rate goes up. So we are punished for using less

I believe that we should all be good custodians of our planet however as someone else pointed out - China and the U.S. and India still burn coal. And they burn a lot more than we ever did. The U.S. topped entire mountains in Kentucky!

So how is one to fight that?

Well, for me. I'll keep planting stuff. I have a tiny suburban lot and used to have 5 trees - lost two to disease/scale. But the remaining trees are good sized trees. This must help some!
