Went to a folk music festival in the woods. It wasn't very good, but it was nice to chill in the woods, kids had a play in the park, I had a nice cuppa for not much money and the kids had biscuits, all for a donation rather than a business transaction. More chill out in the woods. Found a massive rodedendron down in a clearing by the stream. Eventually came home. Kids settled in bed after just one fight. Now wife and I beer drinking while listening to Latino music cos I'm off work tomorrow.

      I didn't see you. :dunno:

@luciu If the Kencast question comes up again I can ask a couple of retired builders in my bridge club about them. They're more likely to know as they were in business during that period.

I've been a bit too busy to do any gardening over the last few days. :snorky: Can't think why!! :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Thank you Shiney, I appreciate that:)

I had a quick chat with the builder who does the big jobs on this house ( and a wonderful job he does too ) and he mentioned the amount of Asbestos likely to be present and problems associated with dealing with it when trying to renovate. I'm inclined to say ( at this point ) that I should stick with bricks and mortar or stone.

I've somehow ended up installing a new stove during summer at peak planting time, involving smashing out the 1950's Deco'ish fire surround/hearth/inset stove, reconstructing timber suspended floor to suit new hearth shape, reducing opening to suit new inset stove, maintaining continuity of dpms/dpcs and making good finishes/decs. Unfortunately nanny state regs now require me to get a HETAS contractor for the flue installation.

            Looks a bit messy ATM

But will look better when this surround/hearth and the new inset stove is fixed, by doing most of the work myself, getting a really good price match on the stove, etc., I've reduced the project cost by £2,000.

That is a cracking classic surround and hearth!!! It's a rare, but welcome, occasion when one is actually installed these days................not an easy job but wonderful to see:thumbsup::snorky:

Not a particularly happy start to the day having to attend an inquest on Mrs Strongy's aunt at 9.30 this morning in Liverpool. She passed away about half an hour before we got to the Hospital last Saturday. Fortunately it only took 20 minutes. We now have to go to Birkenhead again for the funeral in two weeks time.
Mrs S doesn't know whether she is coming or going, there is a lot to do and from a distance.

Been off work today. So took the wife and kids to the park this morning. CL1.1 was rightly very excited, because we were going to test the balsa wood speed boat we've made. It was a great success, successfully crossing the lake under its own engine power.

Then late lunch at a nice pub with beer garden. Then back in time for martial arts, where due to knee injuries, I've changed my focus from fast and furious to refinement of technique and proper breathing etc.

And now. Beer, wine and cheesecake with wife.

My new Outback BBQ arrived yesterday. So building that this morning . The last one I got about 9 years ago said " Can be built in one hour , by a competent person " . It took me nearly 4 hours ! Not sure what that infers  Anway chicken souvlaki kebabs later this evening , and a pork sausage for Molly :blue thumb:
