Right, I think I've found a solution....I'll send all three of you some seed and you can bombard each other as much as you like:heehee: I strongly recommend safety goggles, though. And keep them away from the chooks, Loli...they'd get more than they bargain for if they peck at the fruits;)
PM me your addresses if you do want seed...otherwise it's going in the Seed Swap parcel. x

Thanks for the offer Noisette, but I'll decline if you don't mind. :) By the way, are they edible please?

Oups..just caught up with this. Don't read on, Zigs;)
No, Sheal, not edible and not much like a cucumber if the truth be told. Christopher Lloyd must have had a pretty vivid imagination to have found them as hilarious as he did. They make a scrambling grey-green perennial vine with small yellow flowers and hairy, oval fruit that, er, ejaculate. Damned things are everywhere now......

Thanks Noisette, I'm glad I turned your offer down. :heehee: How is your weather over there, are you being given the 'bashing' we are expecting here?

I originally grew these around 6 years ago and decided to grow them again this year. They are really easy to grow, and develop quickly into quite large sprawling plants. The 'cucumbers' turn slightly yellow when ripe then the slightest touch makes them go.

In good years they develop a thick tuber which can be over wintered and restarted the following year.

It seems to have gone around us, thank goodness! It was a beautiful summer day yesterday and today gentle rain. It's going to turn colder midweek, though, so the big autumn session of getting tender plants under cover starts tomorrow.
The Ecballiums seem very hardy and perennial here.

They look good and healthy:) Just so long as the 'explosions' don't reach across the Channel;)
I'm having enough trouble with the purple clover thingy with exploding seed pods!
