I think moderators should consider closing this thread that was started in good faith by Merleworld as it has been infiltrated by non believers ,a bit like the English supporters were attacked without provocation by a handful of so called Russian supporters......
Alas we do live in a violent world ,but it's always this minority's that gets the publicity......the media love it.:mute:....;).

With respect, you've clearly taken my post out of context. Did you not see the last sentence?

Feel free to delete my post(s) or take whatever moderator action you see fit.

            Kind regards.

Sorry if my post last night caused this thread to turn into something that has offended. It was not my intention.

My opinion on last nights match is as follows.

I think it was the best tournament performance I have seen from England for a long time. However I do think that the tactics with the diamond formation were wrong. The Russian defence is the oldest in the competition and England have some of the quickest forwards in the competition. Although we created a lot of chances and the performance was great by all players, I feel if you have the likes of Kane and Vardy running onto balls over the top of that defence there would have been a lot of one on ones situations. The only problem is who do you drop to play 4,4,2. Llalana, Rooney and Sterling all had great games, although llalana was a little quiet in the 2 nd half. With Walker and Rose having fantastic games both at the back and going forward, I really do think 4,4,2 was the way to go. Pressure is on England against the Welsh now, I thought the Welsh looked good yesterday, although I never saw the whole match.

              Rusty

I think the decision to have Harry Kane take corners is bizarre. Surely you want your front man in the box (especially when he's a good header of the ball) when the corner comes in? Very strange.

I thought he should have taken Kane off with 20 minutes to go and brought Sturridge or Vardy on.

You were right though. Although it wasn't my intention to suggest or imply that all footy fans were stupid, reading it back it can see it looks like that's what I was saying. I too should have added a tongue in cheek smiley. That and avoid posting when I've had a drink. And read it back to myself before hitting post.

                      Hi @merleworld I can't understand it either my friend:dunno:

                      His corners against Russia
1 - Overhit. Alli retrieves on other side of pitch.
2 - Finds Smalling. Defender heads over from penalty spot.
3 - Cleared at near post.
4 - Cleared at near post.
                      5 - Overhit. Russia clear.
5 - Short to Lallana. Kane receives the ball back but cross just evades Cahill.

I have just phoned Roy Hodgson and he said Kane won't be taking them on Thursday against Wales and I don't need to apologise for Kane taking a corner," . "Especially if you've got a player with his quality striking a ball and no one else in the team who comes up to that level of striking a ball.":lunapic 130165696578242 5:

This is my last comment in the way this thread appeared to go , but..............

The thread is called " Euro 2016 ".

All the comments made concerning the violence were part of the whole experience of Euro 2016.

Perhaps it would have been clearer if the thread was called....

                        Euro 2016 Match comments only.

                        Or something similar.

It's not as though the comments were made about something totally unconnected.

In fact as it turns out the whole situation is now very much connected, with the threat of expulsion from the competition of both Russia and England .
