I'd love to go there :)

Have they kept it up in his tradition ( I think that's the right word ). I think my love for cottage style gardens and plants is partly down to Geoffs influence :)

I think basically they have tried to keep the original tradition, style and spirit of Geoff's gardening and the way he formed Barnsdale. But like all gardens the actual garden is a living, breathing, growing thing and has matured over the years. So there have been some changes made, but only those who have been regular visitors would notice them:dunno::snork: The gardens are now being run by his family and of course they have had their own input into it but the main influence of Geoff is still there. During the series of Garden World he did a string of different styles of garden plots, from Town House with a yard, a small House with a small garden, and then building up in size so there is now a area of all those different gardens. Plus there is a wildlife pond, a hut that Geoff built himself etc. I always try to visit it when I can.:snorky:

I bought mulch for one garden out back and the small one out front of the house. Weeded before I spread it around. We`re expecting dry weather for a few weeks so I`m hoping the mulch will help retain some of the moisture when the sprinkler system is finished it`s rounds. First time I`ve ever used mulch. Hope it helps.

I also got my self a new, deluxe garden hose. Threw the old one which I only bought last year and which refused to be wound all one direction - like trying to coil a boa constrictor it was that nasty - out for anyone who wants to get a workout every time they try to reel the thing!:rolleyespink:

Just smothered the garden in nematodes. The slugs and snails are out in force!

Kept looking at the sunflowers through the window and silently weeping for them.. so run out during a break from the showers and planted them where I dug up raspberry canes that didn't do anything. Moved 2 hanging baskets with Tom's in blowaway as they got water crystals in, way too wet.
Should be pulling buds off and pinching out my dahlias to make bigger blooms but can't bring myself to do it..

Nice! I myself can really get stuck by ponds when walking by them outdoors.
Almost to the point of embarrassment. 10-year old all over again.

When living in Lisboa, Portugal, they had a really nice one.
Lots of fish and turtles knocking about. There you had turtle heads sticking
out the water amongst the fishes trying to get the french fries.

I also started to working on a pond some 5 years ago, at a friends country
house. Spent two days digging until I had blisters in my hands.
-Only to get a "no" from his father once he returned back home. Haha..

You have them in England too? :yay:

Heard that ducks are happy with eating slugs.
But then you are out picking duckshit instead of snails I guess.

In Sweden, they tend to glue themselves together into big balls for some reason..

Well, I garden on 350 - 450 feet of sand, Magnus, but on getting the help of my Son-in-law and telling it'll be a "doddle" to dig out the pond we found the underlying ground to be compacted hard clay where the builder of the House had dumped it. So it was a hard slog cutting out "bricks" of the clay and after 3 days my Son-in-Law had to go back to work leaving me with about a third to still dig out. I must admit sitting by the pond does make me feel relaxed and almost 10 year old again, but after finally digging the pond out I felt :old:. Having said that, seeing how it is now makes it all worth while.:coffee:

You couldn't use the clay as the pond base? Never tried myself but I think some ponds just use the clay and it seems to work. I'm probably missing something

Torrential rain and thunderstorms earlier today, followed by late afternoon sunshine. Husband got home so I convinced him to mow the lawn while I trimmed the edges. Just as we were finishing another huge downpour began, so we scarpered inside. Really glad it's done though, all the rain and sun has it growing like the clappers!

Hi Loofah, well, under the presumption that we'd be digging through sand I'd already bought the butyl liner and scrounged some old carpets from relatives so using the clay was not really an option. Also using the clay as a liner, [puddling], would mean even more time compacting it by walking up and down over it.:dunno: Also I've been to a fair amount of the Old Estate Gardens and there were one or two that were undergoing repair because the clay lining had cracked, I just didn't fancy all that work and then thinking that the clay in my pond would do the same.:hate-shocked::heehee: So the clay was dumped about 20 feet and used as a base for a rockery and also as the site for two young, at the time, Conifers.:coffee::snorky:

Today I'll be mowing the lawn (more like a jungle) and planting out five hydrangea.
