A bit of a story but my next door neighbour has a shed at the top of his garden a neighbour is complaining/reported him to the council saying his shed is attracting rats,

The person who's complaining keeps chickens and has a dog barking all day and night, I suspect someone's reported the dog barking and he's just reporting everyone around him me included for an antenna,

Anyhow for the last few weeks ive noticed corn/wheat on my decking/lawn/shed roof after a while the penny dropped he's firing it over I can only presume to try and move his rat problem to other houses,

What can I do he's not a chap you can approach his mentality doing this probably explains it all, any advise welcome before I go and get hold of him :phew:.

Film him doing it from an upstairs window and show the council environmental health officer, also post the vid to social media.

Thanks Zigs he has a hedge of around 10ft tall it would be hard to see corn coming over from my home without an expensive camera, i will see if i can rig up a cctv camera at the top of the garden tomorrow.

What an ahole..Ask other neighbours if they've noticed, if so you can all make a phonecall/email to council/enviro. Some neighbours don't want the hassle though.

Chickens will attract rodents; sheds and decking are attractive homes for rodents to snuggle up under. So, six of one and half a dozen of the other ;)

You could advise him that he is wasting time, energy and money with that method because his chickens will be a far greater draw than some seeds lobbed willy nilly across the gardens

Try and view it sideways: he's got rats in his garden (not nice!); he's cheesed off about it. He clearly isn't linking keeping chickens with attracting rats and I doubt he will be keen to acknowledge that the attraction is actually his chooks! So, you could go the environmental health route, but, that might just look like tit for tat and may even escalate matters.

Alternatively you, and whichever neighbours are in the firing line, could club together and get a rat bait box and offer it to him as a solution to his the rat problem. (Probably buy one for your own gardens while you are at it too). If trying to play the "nice" card is unsuccessful, then you still have the wiggle room of reporting him/his behaviour to environmental health at the Council.

Many thanks M, he's un approachable, ive informed a few neighbours around me and there going to keep an eye out, I think setting a camera up and catching him in the act maybe the way to go i have no concreate evidence without film.

Clearly not as far as the rats are concerned though (seems they like him!) :heehee:

Ok, well in that case ...

... leave the rat bait box on his doorstep  ;)

If the council has a good rat man/woman they will know where the problem is, so i wouldn't worry about that, the only problem is that you may get rats, so speck to rat person about what's been going on and they will put out some bait boxs to help stop the problem if it comes your way

Not all councils provide this service ...
                  In @martin-f area ...
This link is to the page where it lists the costs Pest control for households in Sheffield

So, if you know of a neighbour who has a qualifying benefit they are probably the best ones to apply to the council ;)
