whilst out walking the dogs today i noticed some particularly attractive looking foliage peeping through someones garden hedge...i was surprised to see it was a Fuchsia! :hate-shocked: the leaves were beautiful, they were variegated pink and green (a pale dull green with a faint pink hue and strong pink veining) gorgeous i must say :love30: is pink foliage common in fuchsias? any one happen to know what type this one is?

EDIT: the foliage of the fuchsia was "peeping" through the hedge...not me! :embarrassed:

@honeybunny there is a variety called Tom West which has foliage like that, and there is also one called Sunray with similar leaves. I don't know if the one you saw was either of these but they are possibilities

        Hi Honeybunny,

There are the two Michael said, but, if it was growing in a hedge I'd be more inclined to say F. Magellanica Versicolour. This is one that is often used for hedging and can grow around 8/10' high in one year.

                        Hi Longk,

Is your F. Procumbens in a pot, if so do you overwinter it indoors ( etc ) ?

Mine is outside permanently in an old birdbath, and has done two Winters now without any help.

Is this one ( Wirral ? ) as hardy as the normal one ?

                          Hi Anthony,

I'm not sure as I only got it earlier this year, currently growing in a hanging basket, will post picture.
But I will over winter it in the greenhouse

In a pot which stays in an unheated greenhouse over the winter. I've lost all the ones that I tried overwintering outdoors.

I have 3 different £1 Morrisons fuschias in a medium sized pot, that were baby fuchsias but are now all pretty big and all appear merged into one big plant at first glance! As such I've decided not to mess with them/repot each into their own pot this summer, I think it could get messy if I did and they're not too big as it stands! I would like to do it though... so is this something I could do during winter? Or autumn? Basically when would be the best time? I should add I will be overwintering them under a lean to during winter.
