I am pleased to say that our polling station was really busy too, with loads of people clearly going to or from it. I got confused when I was in there, but chose the gardening option - something to do with leaves anyway
Although I was opening the Polling Station just after 6 a.m. I got called back at about 7.15 because the floor was getting very slippery from everyone marching in and out with wet shoes. I found some ridged rubber mats to put down and then gave them a mop and bucket. They were letting everyone in through the disabled access door (leads directly into the polling room) so they were bypassing the main entrance with the built in matting. They checked in with me about where to put the mats when they have finished and told me that their inspector had turned up during the day, declared that it wasn't safe enough and went out and bought some more mats. They didn't call me about it because they knew that I would have told them to get people using the front door like any normal person would. They didn't want to do that because they would have had to rearrange the whole room. They've donated the mats to the village hall. I'll go back about midnight to check that everything is OK and locked up properly.
Our polling station was very quiet, in previous elections I've had to queue but tonight there were just two other people in there. I heard on the radio that many commuters are stuck in London as trains out of Waterloo are cancelled due to flooding so I reckon many are going to miss out on voting here.
Hi JWK, It's just been said on the news that some polling stations have been given the go ahead to remain open for an extra couple of hours due to the weather.
Does that idiot Nigel Farage ever talk any sense...... He's said now that he thinks Remain have won....... The votes haven't even been counted yet, as I said Idiot,Idiot,Idiot.
