I was looking at my runner beans ,Corgettes etc. and some flowers and thinking they are all well...........but not as well as they should be.
Feeding at this stage is not an exact science so not relying on some really warm sunny weather any suggestions to give them a real boost ?

Hi @roders i can't recommend chicken pellets enough as a booster for crops and flowers.I have been feeding my rhubarb on generous helpings of pellets and they have now gone mad and produced cracking stalks and very large leaves, although I think all the rain we have had has helped wash the pellets down into the soil to give them a good boost:biggrin:

I have also spread them round my broad beans and also shallots, onions etc and they all seem to be growing well especially the broad beans that have grown quiet tall for the first time in years and we are about to start picking the first crop this coming week:smile:

In the spring I chucked handfuls of pellets all across the borders(didn't want to walk on the ground and squash it:snorky:) and now have a couple of climbing roses that are full of blooms and my border plants all have grown well and look really good (apart from the slug and snail holes that is:sad:)

Just my own opinion of what works for us:smile:

Did you have the thunderstorms yesterday Rodders? They should pick up soon if you did as the lightning fixes atmospheric nitrogen which comes down with the rain :fingers crossed:

Our plants are doing OK but we spread compost and horse manure each year. :noidea:

We were slightly late this year with sowing but planted the beans out at the end of May. They were all roughly the same height but some are now 2ft-3ft high and others have reached 7ft.

This week the penstemons have burst into flower :blue thumb: We have lots of them. :)

Yes it is. Although it is difficult to quantify the amount produced as both nitrates and ammonia are produced.
Things have really shot up in my garden recently I put it down to the warmer weather and longer days.
Yes rain will wash nutrients out of the soil especially nitrates and potassium. Increasing the organic matter in the soil will help bind the nutrients where the plants can reach them and also help hold the water.

In my opinion its down to what particular plants want as regarding growing conditions.
My onions are the best for years, so is sweetcorn, some flowering plants are struggling.
Snails and slugs are doing their best to wipe out my spuds that would otherwise be doing well.

Its been pretty wet here for all of June, wet that is against normal for this part of the country.
That has followed what has been a pretty cold spring.

We need more sunshine, some proper sustained heat, less thunder and and things might just even out, but at the moment I'm not holding my breath.
We will probably get a nice warm October, no good to nobody in my opinion.:)

Some of my runner bean plants are reaching 13ft-14ft now. Flowers only just coming and I'm waiting to see my first bean. I'll give them an inspection today. :blue thumb:
