Over the last couple of years, I've been dabbling in the sewing and quilting hobby. It's something that I have found a great deal of enjoyment in. I do enjoy making quilts, bags and lots of other items in the sewing/crafting genre. There is so much to learn with quilting, it'll take me many years before I become proficient in the skill. I've made 4 so far, most of them as gifts. I find making my own things for the home or friends very relaxing.
I've even sold a few things via FB/Etsy, though it's very much on a small scale. I love it.
Does anyone else do sewing or embroidery? I'd love to see what you've made.

Here's a selection of the things I have made.

I made this quilt for hubby's great aunt, who is now the ripe old age of 103! IMG_0011 copy.JPG

This was the first quilt I've ever made.

Quilted table runner for my sister's birthday. IMG_0387.jpg

Shopaholics tote bag.. Who doesn't love shopping!

Quilted poppy wall hanging for my inlaws.

This was a tote bag I made for someone via FB she subsequently bought 5 more bespoke bags!

This bag was made and donated to a dog charity for an online auction.

Needle book. I love making these. Have also sold a couple of them via etsy.

I love creating things, especially when it's too wet to play outside. Which, given by today's weather, will see me in my sewing den again.

        Lovely work, @Joolz !

I do mainly cross stitch, although I have done a fair bit of needlepoint in my time. Tempted to step into the world of quilting, but not taken the plunge yet...

My cross stitch wolves - love this pair, who wait for me at the foot of the stairs every morning! image.jpeg

Some cross stitch angels that come out every year, for the Smallest Room image.jpeg

My largest needlepoint project - a large fire screen. Of course, we now have a "landscape" format set-in fire, but still love the fire screen! image.jpeg

And on a completely different tack, a crocheted rag-rug that I made earlier this year! image.jpeg

Oh @Beckie76 Thank you for such a lovely compliment.

I don't have one of those bags made up atm, but I could make one for you if you wished. They're made from scratch and take roughly 2/3 days to make.

@Sian in Belgium Oh my goodness, those are works of art! WOW! I do cross stitch too, though nothing like that scale. I am in awe chick, they're stunning.

Thank you for the lovely compliment @miraflores . It's so lovely getting such complimentary feedback on the things I make. I get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
That's a good idea about adding my Etsy link into a signature, I will give that some thought.. xxx

Beautiful work Joolz and Sian. :dbgrtmb: It's many years since I've done any needlework of any sort I haven't got the patience for it at the moment. No doubt I'll go back to it again in the future. :)

Gorgeous pieces of work, well done @Sian in Belgium and @Joolz
@Sian in Belgium - I adore your wolves cross stitched piece; so many changes in colour/thread (have you gone cross eyed yet? :heehee: )
@Joolz I see you prefer machine quilting. Have you tried hand quilting? It really does give a completely different look and feel to a piece; somehow more ... folksy? Traditional?
Doesn't that have to be run past Admin first? :noidea:

I have made some quilted pieces and, prior to that, I loved cross stitch. My trouble is, once I have explored a new craft and achieved a basic level of understanding, I tend to move on to the next "new to me" challenge  I tend not to post my own crafts but do have an appreciation of the work of others :dbgrtmb:

Funny you should say that, @"M" !
I was working on this project when I developed a serious eye condition about 6-7 years ago. The tissue behind my eye kept swelling, to the point I could barely open they eye a crack, and eventually crushing the optic nerve. It was touch and go, but the university hospital was able to save my sight, and the permenant damage isn't too severe. A friend and I started a sewing group, to encourage each other, as I was finding getting back to the wolves so difficult (partial red colour-blindness and double vision). The wolves were finished, the group still meets!

@Sheal I hadn't done any cross-stitch in years, picked it up again over the winter last year. It's not something I do regularly, but pick it up when I have a quiet evening, I've been working on one for 6 months now. No doubt it'll take me another 6 to finish. :snork:

@"M" I haven't tried hand quilting. I find holding the quilt and needle a tad awkward. A few years ago I had rather a nasty accident with an exceptionally sharp kitchen knife, went through nerves and an artery in my middle finger, on my left hand. Thankfully they managed to save it, but I have reduced feeling in that finger and it doesn't always like bending for too long. I might give it another try when I'm doing a smaller quilt, like a wall hanging or such like. :dbgrtmb: I must admit, I was very sceptical about making this thread as I don't have a lot of confidence in myself. I'm always very thankful when someone likes what I've done.

Oh @Sian in Belgium what a fabulous achievement (for both you & the hospital) to be able to finish that beautiful work or art. I would love to see more of your works.xx

Well let's hope we have boosted your confidence Joolz. You're work is something to be proud of! :dbgrtmb:

Quilting is something I've never attempted although I've worked on many different types of sewing projects from bridesmaids dresses to re-upholstering a conservatory suite for a friend. I spent many years sewing cross stitch and tapestry work and more recently went back to knitting but I haven't picked up a needle of any sort for a year. I'm also a bobbin lace maker but my equipment has been in mothballs for a decade or more. No doubt my patience and enthusiasm will return at some point in the future. :)
