What has happened to Gents good quality finished socks?.
I have noticed for some years now the finished quality on gents socks has deteriorated drastically .
The finish on the toe section generally has a Large stitched rim which rubs against the toes and the inside of the shoe causing sore toes when walking.

Sports socks, which I wear regular, are made far too tight with double elasticated tops which when removed leave 2 large indentation marks on my legs, some of them are so tight that they curtail circulation when cycling.:frown:.
The last 3 pairs of socks I purchased were called 'Gentle Grip', I grant they were a gentle grip on the legs, but the seam finish on the toe section cut my toes to hell, and they were not cheap.:frown:.

Has anyone discovered a good brand of socks to purchase that do not do not hurt Toes or strangle Legs.?.

Also, anyone wanting @ 2 drawers full of smelly sport socks, with the Tops cut off them. :sick0026:.

I generally find that M&S socks are about the best of a bad bunch, with Sainsburys following close behind. Having said that, I have found that the 'Donnay' branded socks from Sports Direct are reasonable enough (particularly so given their price, which is so low they are almost disposable items!). I don't think there is such a thing anymore as a well made, high quality sock available from a mass-market retailer

Ah!! Socks...don't get me started :gaah:....I now wear trainer socks all the time, because they don't dig into your legs & cut off the circulation, they don't make your legs hot & they aren't tight! Do for me it's M&S trainer socks all the way :dbgrtmb:

My uncle also buys the loose top socks, we were only talking about them last weekend, he said they are so difficult to get hold of now he's gone back to normal socks & cuts them so they flap around but don't cut into his legs !

I've never had to worry about smell but I do prefer wearing my socks inside out unless there is a bold non reversable design. That seam at the toe portion bothers me...:dunno:

A subject after my own heart! :heehee: As I have problems with circulation in my legs (been wearing pressure stockings for nearly 25 years) I have to be careful about socks.

'Soft Top' socks sort out that problem but, nowadays, toe seams are still a problem. The company H J Hall (now called HJ) https://www.hj.co.uk/mens-socks used to solve both problems. Although the link says men's socks that's only because of the page on their site that I clicked on. They do women's socks as well - and sports socks.

The toe seams were sown by hand and were a cottage industry part of the business. At one time they had hundreds of women (sexist) doing the job but by 2010 were down to five and then none!

They still do the soft top which I have been wearing all this time (they do get washed :snork:) and I solve the toe seam problem by wearing them inside out. They may do some sort of smoother toe seem but not in the variety that I like.

They're usually quite helpful on the phone 01455 638818

We have a local (nearest town) shop that sells mobility scooters and thing for the disabled or people with mobility problems and they sell some. There may be somewhere near you that does the same so that you can get a look at them. The company can tell you if they supply any business nearby. Of course, they now sell them on mail order and I've always found their customer service dept. extremely helpful when discussing your needs.

Slazenger socks for me for work and general dossing around. Very cheap from Sports Direct but very hard wearing.
For going out then it is Burlington. Not cheap but really good quality and they have a rivet on the left sock so that you know which is which!
