I'm pretty sure that's the year when the big storm and tidal surge flooded redcar high street and also washed away the Cod and Lobster mk 2 in Staithes. Coincidence? Maybe, but maybe if sweets had just come off being rationed, and people went mad on sugar and additives that their digestive systems were not accustomed to, could have got a bit windy I guess.

The east coast was flooded badly in 53....and we got our first telly...a Pye 14inch, costing £80 on the never-never.

How I miss "Dim". He always made me laugh (even if he did actually believe what he typed).

I remember the floods of '52 in Lynmouth - we got evacuated out of there from our summer holiday.

That was a posh TV. :rolleyespink: I'm not sure but I think we still had a 9" TV with a magnifier on the front.

I laughed when my dear departed father remarked about some brussels which were very much undercooked, served up at Sunday dinner accused my Mother of packing them in her trunk when she came here from over the pond. :) and she was a war bride.... WWII not I...:)

So, my feeling is that is wrong with the world is that barbarian acts and backwards morals promoted by variuos religions/beliefs seem to rule 30%, then total techy non talky, non face time take another 30%, and lastly old poohs and their good old morals, work ethics, etc make up the rest.

we can't control. But we can influence :)

Now, sen me more rain Mother Nature...!

While I agree 100% with the sentiment and concept, I personally would give different ratios.

I'd say 5% religion, maybe 10%old poohs as you put it, and 85% lack of communication.

We just need to talk more. Be it face to face or online or whatever.

During ww1, one Christmas day, the brits and the krauts came out of their trenches and celebrated together. Even exchanging gifts. It was reported in the newspapers. Both sides rapidly hushed it, realising that if left unchecked, ordinary people at home would realise it was people fighting people rather than saints fighting demons.

Must have been quite a year (1952) maritime wise....I remember the ship 'Flying Enterprise' running aground off Cornwall and her brave captain, Kurt Carlsen who refused to leave her.

I also think he is quite a loss.
I still remember that recipe for the Biltong, sounded very professional.
