I've used metric measurement since 1970, but I've never used centimetres. I thought it was only the BBC that used them.
Centimetres seem pointless to me. If you could assign a colour to a unit of measurement, the centimeter would be magnolia. It's too small for measuring big things, where we might use the metre or kilometre. And it's far too big to measure small things, where we might use the millimetre.
The main reason for not being part of it, Anthony, was a gentleman called Charles De Gaulle who refused our application to the then EEC in the 1960's. We joined , along with Gibraltar, Denmark, Ireland, on 1 January 1973.
