PSV training has changed dramatically since I passed my test all those years ago. I had someone out just last week for some refresher training as she was attending a competition later in the week. She has been in the job about two years, and drives really well, but her style was a lot more 'gas and brake' when compared to mine - a local road with a load of humps showed it most; she would drive up to the hump, brake go over, then back on the gas to the next one. I then showed her the way I drive - use the engine and gearbox, plan ahead and the net result was getting from one end of the road to the other without touching the brakes at all.

I understand times change, but I still think the older methods gave a much more fluid and comfortable drive. I once managed to take a double decker full of families including really small kids from Duxford to West London, and for the majority of the journey I was the only one awake - now that is a compliment!

Aye, it is amazing how many people don't realise the skill involved, and that some even look down their noses at driving as a profession - interestingly, our training school puts out roughly 30% of the number that they initially take in, with the remaining 70% not cutting the mustard during training

Actually, yes! A sixteen seater school bus. I used to be the reserve driver for a number of schools around where I worked. Apart from doing the schools a good turn it was good PR for my business. :)

Yeah, maybe there is a video of truck drivers visibility/blind spots. I would like to find one of a transporter with the top deck heading towards a lamp post! :)

I tried setting my mirrors as per "Chucks" advice . To be honest it was a bit weird , driving around normal roads I could not see anything in my wing mirrors only in the rear view mirror. So if I am fully laden on a camping trip I would not have a good rear view . Also as Pete said I would not like to reverse with this mirror setting. As I am back on the M"road to hell"6 tomorrow I have gone back to my standard setting :blue thumb: A quick glance over the shoulder will spot your BMW 3 series trying to undertake you

                Lets face it.
You really need to have your head up your own a*se to even think of making a video like good ole boy Chuck did.

Tried watching the video, had to stop after a few seconds as he is too annoying - geez 6 minutes! Anyone care to summarise in a few words what is taking him an age to say?

John , it shows a technique to align your wing mirrors with the blind spot. I tried it on Sunday and found it a bit disconcerting as I could not relate to the view. I have gone back to just seeing a little of my car flank , so I have a reference.

Thanks Harry, I like to see a little bit of the car side too. There's a particular unsafe junction on my journey to work which is a fast merge from the left and the only safe way to negotiate it is to glance around - I've tried different mirror settings and I there's always a blind spot.
