I wandered around a Canadian Tire store today, while waiting for a recall job to be done on my carrier. There was a lonely, old bag of Norland reds marked down to £1. Picked it up. Put it back. Then picked it up again. Figured who would turn their back on a little orphan. Tomorrow, 2 cubic yards of soil coming for my new raised bed. Will reserve a corner to hug these little outcasts.

little green buddies seem so grateful and try hard to feed you or delight you. So why not be kind to them .. :)

I did, and I have tatties! Emptied one of the barrels (so a quarter of our stock), and didn't get a massive amount, but enough for roughly three dinners for the three of us. Very tasty they are too!

In fairness, they weren't earthed up, nor were they fed - they were just shoved into some compost and let get on with things. I am tempted to have a shot at some late ones to be ready for Christmas - when would they be planted?

Also, what would be the best feed for potatoes?

Well for second earlies that's not too bad FC.

Use a general purpose one like Growmore.

My neighbour told me that she had Potato Blight last week and put the tops in black bags and lifted her potatoes: Post Code CT11.....with that news I've been checking mine, today I noticed black/gray large spots on mine, I've cut the tops off and will lift the crop in the next few days, nothing on my Tomatoes. Is there a guaranteed blight-free early seed Potato (for next season)

Is she certain it was blight?
I posted a picture in this thread post 125 thinking mine may have blight, but I'm treating it with Epsom salts, as advised, on the basis it might be a deficiency of magnesium.

No M I'm not sure it was blight but mine looked nothing like that pic. when I dug up a couple of plants I found two Potatoes that were black and very soft, the rest tasted lovely for dinner. I plan to dig the rest up and store them in my cold cellar. Any tips for storing please.

                        Looking good @Linz

Nothing like a good furtle on a Thursday :heehee:

Think the Borg from Star Trek must have grown their own potatoes,

The black soft ones were probably the old mother seed tuber, once a new plant has grown from it and new tubers form, it just rots away. There will always be one on every potato plant.
