Comma enjoying the newly opened Buddleia flower in our garden (enjoyed a ride too in the blustery conditions!).

Definitely a poor year here too, although picked up today in the garden with the Comma and a Green-veined White today. I've seen a pair of Scarlet Tiger moths in the garden too in the past week (pic below - these are one of our few moths which are increasing apparently).

I haven't seen a Tiger Moth for a few years now, I would have normally seen a lot of Silver Studded Blues by now but the constant wind here on the low exposed heathland is keeping them down in the heather.

We've had lots of Painted Ladies over the last few weeks. Mainly on the Verbena bonariensis and sunbathing on the patio. We have to walk carefully on the patio because there are so many of them!

                      Buddleia is only just budding.

I think my last post was a 'fingers typing before engaging brain' moment.

The 'lots of butterflies' are not Painted Ladies but Tortoiseshells (I think)

I took loads of butterfly pics where my daughter was volunteering last summer, and the hay meadows [1] in the surrounding estate have just been cut which again has concentrated the butterflies into a few uncut margins, which are again adjacent to a couple of lakes so there's also Dragonflies and Damsel flies.

                          Also saw Skippers and Tortoiseshells.

[1] Most of the weeds amongst the grass don't get sprayed out, and according to a well known mycologist the massive diameter of a ring of Field Blewits there indicated the meadows hadn't been ploughed in well over 100 years.
