My local one are great with odd bargains and generally have low prices for most things. Packs of 6 large plugs of bedding plants starting at £1.50 and plenty of stock still in half price summer bulb sale!

Having said that, last week Home Bargains had 6 plug plant pansies of varying colour for 99p a tray! They were a bit dry and sad though. Happily for me Wilko and HB are both near bus stops- so I can buy a few bits and hoik them on the bus home!

Loads of summer bulbs, especially dahlias in my store too 50% off, unfortunately, most of the packets contain squishy tubers/bulbs, or can`t feel anything at all.

Fleece tube reduced from £5 to £1.25 in-store. Link to cached listing on Wilko website http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...ew&layout=noheaders+&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk

Seems ideal for slipping over the early bush tomatoes and mini courgettes that I grow in pots. 5m x 380mm dia. should be enough for a dozen 10" pots, might get another one or two, total area of fleece is 5m x 1.2m and it's a decent thickness (unlike Poundland's thin fleece).

Keep getting reports of 25p Gooseberry bushes and 10p onion setts, but they're in Manchester and I'm not going to be there for a few weeks, and my daughter doesn't have the pots and MPC to keep them OK.

2 x 6m 'Defender' mesh reduced to £3 (from £6) so cheaper than debris netting and much cheaper than Enviromesh. The holes are small enough to keep out carrot flies. I checked with a light meter, and the Wilko mesh let through 14% more light than debris netting. Not online any more (which alerted me to the fact it might be reduced instore).

            defender.jpg

125m of Garden string reduced to 25p, 50m reduced to 10p.

3 x 2m Plastic netting (the stretchy stuff with 15mm mesh to keep birds off crops) reduced to 25p.

Self propelled petrol mowers reduced to £100 from £150. push petrol mowers still £100 in my local store, but I've heard they're reduced to £50 in some stores.

There was absolutely nothing on offer in the gardening section of my local Wilko when I looked earlier this week e.g. seeds all at full price, but the Wilko in the nearest city today was at the end of a clearance. I got superphosphate @ £1 for 1.5kg, garden lime @ £1.25 for a big pack, branded seeds all down to 50p and they'd cleared out all their own seeds @ 10p per pack.

Fleece, plastic and shading mesh cloches all £1 each.

Looking back on this thread to this time last year, the bargains were coming thick and fast at the end of July.

First 2 still full price in my local Wilkos, wildflower mix is £1.00.

All the walk in greenhouses [2] sold out when only 25% off, shelves [1] are £6.00?, cold frames £2.00 and nothing else reduced.

To avoid the embarrassment of failing to find a single bargain I purchased a couple of 5 packs of pot saucers reduced to 10p/pack. Might do a road trip next week taking in 5 Wilkos, Dobbies, 4 B&Ms, 3 Tescos and a Wyevale plus a few other places, taking a packed lunch and making a day of it. I feel another 'you know you're an obsessive gardener' post coming on.

[1] At £2 each I'd probably have about 5 for use on the planned paved area at one end of my 2nd 3 x 10m polytunnel. Not worth faffing about making things from pallet slats when you can get stuff for that price.

[2] At £10 each I'd consider buying a few to use for covering marrow and pumpkin plants for a few weeks after planting, I know they would normally blow away, but I'd rig up some system of permanent timber supports to attach them to.
