Dear all. I bought this today at a market stall. The girl told me it is a house plant, but tell me no more.

Can anyone tell me what it is so that I can research its needs. Thank you. CIMG1974.JPG

    Hi dinp,

It looks like a Dieffenbachia ( Dumb Cane ). Grown as a houseplant over here.

As you intend to research it you may not need me telling you that it is called the Dumb Cane (among other more saleable names) as it contains an irritant which if the sap gets in your mouth can cause swelling and therefore supposedly dumbness. It is also eye and skin irritant.

Thank you for the replies. I really do appreciate the help.

I was again at the same stall, and I bought two houseplants that I liked. Again, the young girl could tell me no more. May I ask identification of these two? I dont mean to be a pain, but I think plants stand a better chance if some care information is known.

        Thank you kindly. CIMG1976.JPG CIMG1975.JPG

The first plant is a fiscus Benjamina, or weeping fig. Copes well with semi shade, and "normal" houses plant neglect, but really hates cold draughts. I think a closer photo will help with the second plant.
...looks like you've found a good plant stall there!

Hello. Thank you for that. I appreciate your help.

I have taken closer pictures of the other plant which I just potted with compost mixed with perlite.

Looks a bit like an Aspidistra.
