We are refitting a 3m x 2m bathroom . The walls are to be fully tiled and the flooring is a high quality laminate click together. So you need to leave a 10mm (?) gap all around the flooring . Skirting boards will not be fitted , this normally covers the laminate gap . But we are tiling to the floor . Do I fit black scotia strip all around , or are there other possibilities ?
    TIA

Can you leave a gap between the tiles and floor?

Floor first, then tiles. Or fit skirting board afterall

I think we will fit the floor first . Just removed a piece of skirting , the bathroom has studded walls on three sides so a 25mm high piece of plaster board can be removed all round . This will leave a 10mm gaps up to the studs :blue thumb: The tiling can then go down to the laminate floor and be grouted in , no gaps !

I'd use silicon instead of grout, as the gap is for expansion and the grout might crack when it does move.

Will do @Zigs . The gap will be sealed with a pale grey silicon to match the grout .
I actually can't believe that the laminates coefficient of expansion can fill a 10mm gap either side on a 2 metre width ! I could do the calculation 40 years ago not so sure now

I don't think it would either, they're probably just playing it safe.

                I agree with Zigs.
A couple of mm's all round is enough expansion in a small bathroom, and the proposed silicon seal is ideal!

Um. If you silicone seal it then it can't expand... It gets stuck in place doesn't it?

Just a point, but silicone and poly-sulphide have been used as 'movement joints' for years in both vertical and horizontal joints of render - brickwprk and tiling.

Never got involved in laminate flooring, so just guessing.
Silicone allows movement, that's the whole point.

I would think silicon has enough flex in it to accommodate any movement in the laminate.
