I'll be planting out some dahlias later. In the meantime I have .... [drumroll]... filled a bucket with water!

Yup, really. It's to place all the junkmail into so I can make paper logs.

Other things distracting me are clearing my office area as it's a real tip and logging all the things we need to get rid of in the house to make a bit of space.

@Loofah Can you come round and do ours as well? We've only got 44 years of accumulation.

During the last week I've not done as much as usual in the garden because of the oppressive heat, and the hour a day picking beans. We've still managed to get the bonfire heap up to 7ft high and 5'-6' diameter, fill a 5' x 5' compost heap and fill two green wheelie bins with more material waiting to be put in the neighbour's bin when he puts it out.

Yesterday I did a lot of tidying in my little greenhouses and also some planting out of some seedlings. Going to putter around outside today again as tomorrow and the rest of the week we're too are expecting a heat wave and all I want to do on those days is water. Got money earning to do tomorrow but Thursday and Friday I shall be doing some re-organizing in the cellar where I have set up an indoor area for growing my seedlings. I need to spray the area down with the home made spider mite spray that I read about. I tried it outside with wonderful results and it isn't messy at all so I feel it's okay for this inside area. :)

              Today has been deadheading:spinning:,
a poop-scoop inside (ie in my garden = my dogs:doggieshmooze:)
and outside (ie the strip of land between our wall and the pavement, that I'm responsible for = other people's dogs :what:,
              lazy people:gaah:),
              filling nut feeders:wub2:,
getting stung under a toe as I caught a honey bee with my sandal:oopss:,

              then cutting the grass:biggrin:.

              Time for that cuppa!:coffee:

I had a giant bonfire last night. Flames were well over 20ft high :hate-shocked:. I'd hosed down all the surrounding trees before starting and had the hosepipe ready, just in case.

Towards the end I added the whole stack of remaining logs from having the 40ft poplar tree cut down. People had already taken most of the logs but these were the big ones that were too tough and knotty for a chainsaw to cut through. They would have needed a log splitter, which no one had. I'll go down soon to have a look how the logs have done. There were only about a dozen logs but they were up to 3ft diameter. Most of the bigger ones were hollow, where the tree had rotted on the inside.

Added to the bonfire, once it had got going, were all the branches from our 70+ year old golden plum tree that had split down the middle last week. One half is still standing and we'll give it chance to survive. :blue thumb:

Clearing stuff from near the veg beds as the committee has complained about access... Dug out dead gooseberry and suffering from a case of holes-in-thumbs. Seriously, what's sharper, an onyx scalpel blade or a gooseberry Bush thorn?
