Good afternoon I am now taking a 5 minute break as it is very warm out there at the moment,have cleared and weeded this last area

 

Good evening @"M" bindweed that's that's half the reason why I am changing my garden,I had it beautifully planted all the way up on the left hand side,it strangled everything from top to bottom coming through the fence and I couldn't get to the roots as the neighbours garden is overgrown,and after so much rain in June this year it really ran riot

 

Good afternoon @"M" yes ,I had a word in his shell like ,we get on well(but then thinking aloud,I get on with most people for some reason)

I said he is very fortunate to have a garden and does not live in a concrete jungle in the cityand I then took him round my back garden and showed him what effect his laziness had on my garden,he apologised and said that he would keep the bindweed under control in future

Good afternoon ,its another warm and balmy summers day just right for painting my steps with red brick masonry paint,

 

A gentle potter. Also moved a couple of gooseberry plants and re jigged the blueberry bushes (I never do well with those!!)

 

Yesterday I started working in the garden early in the morning and had done a few hours by the time Michael turned up at 10 a.m. I set him to shaping the conifers, which has taken him all day but he's done a good job.

He also dealt with three wasps nests that were in areas where visitors to the garden wander by or we need to work. We try not to get rid of them if possible but some areas just have to be kept clear. One was in the compost heap that is in use at the moment, another was at a height of 5ft in the hole in the willow tree that we walk past all the time and one was by the path to the front door. I'm surprised that there was the one in the willow as that's where the woodpeckers are always working.

Mrs Shiney has been blitzing the garden with her clearing and cutting back. Loads of the softer material went on the compost heap and the rest filled three wheelie bins and then made our bonfire heap up to 5ft high!!

I spent a lot of the day digging and weeding, getting rid of couch grass, strawberry weed, bindweed, ordinary grass, broad leafed weeds, Rose Bay Willow and other pernicious weeds that were revealed after Mrs Shiney had cut back all the stachys, lychnis and Verbascum chaixii from the 'veggie plot'. They cover an area of approx. 600sq ft between the two main sections and apart from looking great through spring and summer they bring the pollinators for the veggies.

I've been able to spend more time on the digging and weeding because the grass hasn't been growing in this drought. The digging in the veggie area wasn't difficult because it gets watered when I have the sprinkler on the veggies.
