Actually we don't usually get winter. The local extremely inefficient chemical plant sees to that by having an emergency use of its main flare stack sometimes for days at a time, on a regular basis.

When I used to work at said site, in winter I'd always park my car facing the cracker. That way when we all came out, and people who'd parked the other way round would be getting the de icer out to defrost their windscreens, I could just drive off immediately with nice clear windscreen because the heat from the cracker had kept my car from freezing.

 

I bet that keeps the Polar Bears at bay, too warm for em, don't want them pinching your courgettes

 

When I lived in Sheffield, despite it being further south than I am now it was colder in winter due to cold air rushing down the valley from the pennines. I couldn't grow courgettes there because as you say, the polar bears would always nick them.

Blimey! You're just a bit further north than me at the moment @HarryS. If that's what it's like in Wigan I won't stand a chance in Inverness-shire!
