Hopefully he swallowed some spines and is being stabbed internally.

Slugs and snails have given my onion leaves a good chomping this year ! Never had a problem before and naively thought that onion leaves were not on their menu .
Now I normally lift my onions in early September . I presume the chomped leave ones will be OK just a bit smaller

I have often seen the leaves eaten away but never the bulb. The damaged ones are all right but smaller as you say.

Used to hear them chomping the onion leaves when I lived in Wales, they decimated them there because of the high rainfall.

Snails have had a pop at my succulent in the greenhouse :th scifD36:

              Interesting questions -
1 - Apart from being part of the food chain , do slugs/snails serve any useful purpose ?
2 - Why the heck do they not eat Dandelions or Mares-tail ! ?

Try blanching dandelion leaves to make them edible and not bitter. The snails will have the lot away before you do.
