Tried mixing, 1 teaspoon of salt, half a cup of Apple Cider Vinegar and half a cup of water, put in a spray bottle, spray and massage into the fur, just watch there eyes, also sprinkling salt on your carpets over night and vacuuming up the next morning, salt dehydrates the fleas and they snuff it..

Another tip, give your dog brewers yeast tablets, fleas can't stand the smell that comes from the dogs flesh. Plus its on of the finest things you can give your dog

Dont mess around with fleas on the dog.
Go get some proper treatment such as Frontline or Stronghold.

Fleas can carry tapeworms as I found out, and they are nasty.

Think about the health of the dog before messing around with hick styles of treatment.

Home made recipes can work BUT personally I would only use them if they'd been recommended by someone who was known to be qualified to do so, no insult intended Kimberley, maybe you are. Many pink skinned dogs, some Westies as an example have very very sensitive skin and I would doubt salt which is corrosive or Cider Vinegar being acidic would do them much good.
The likes of Frontline are quite expensive I know but a lot less so than possible vet visits as the result of using the wrong things.
I do however, use of all things Paraffin to spray on my horse as THE BEST fly/tick spray. After years and years of spending a fortune on commercial sprays all pretty much the same (fairly useless) containing Citronella I was lucky enough to talk to a world renowned expert on equine skin conditions. He told me he uses Paraffin (NOT PETROL as far far too strong) on his horses. The principle is the same as what Kimberley is talking about ie you want your animal be it dog/horse/cat to smell/taste of anything other than what they are if this makes sense:). Paraffin works a treat on equines as long as you don't mind them smelling like a petrol station, however, you have to doze them everyday during the bad fly season. I would expect the Cider Vinegar treatment would be the same as the smell doesn't last that long. Whether Paraffin would work on dogs to prevent fleas I am not an expert to know that answer. Certainly I was not prepared to take the risk on our pink skinned cats and use the Frontline you put on the back of their necks so they can't lick it off. I was recommended this treatment by the lady who runs the cat sanctuary who lives closeby. She uses it on her over 200 abandoned and unwanted cats. No wonder she works day and night to raise money for her sanctuary!
Living in the countryside we get a fair few ticks/fleas around (both sheep and deer) Frontline does work for some considerable time I've found.

I agree with perhaps sensitive skin but if you have a dog with warts then you don't put more insecticides onto there body ''s. We should really follow the American verinery rules only do booster vaccines every two/three years and use other treatments than insecticides..There food control out ways ours because of people's loyalty to animals. We do kill our own dogs lack of knowledge and control. Like your insurance is void if you don't have dental work done annually now, whatever next

Never use conventional flea treatments regularly or as a preventative as it is absolutely atrocious for your dogs health. Very rare we use anything like that now....and its a last resort when we do (i think the last time was about 4 yrs ago?) Our boys rarely get fleas anymore which im convinced is down to the regular use of a slicker brush, they get right down to the skin and our boys get a thorough going over with it every 2nd day usually, i believe the wires kill or damage any fleas it comes into contact with :paladin:

I agree I think we drown them with two many chemicals in th USA they only vaccinate every 3rd year. If our digs are Insured we have to vaccinates every year. I think these pharmaceutical companies aregistered only out for themselves

I am a firm believer in live bacteria yoghourt and this morning I gave a yoghourt bath to my doggy and she enjoyed it extremely. She felt very refreshed at the end and enjoyed a lot licking it away. My doggy doesnt respond to anything regarding fleas prevention of the chemical methods, just as well because I want to use natural remedies on her. I will try the brush as well.
