UK record pumpkin looks like it is being smashed !

The Paton twins record of 1884 lbs looks in danger now as they have one in their patch "Taped" at 1890lb and still growing at 24lb per day, this one may shake the world record if this growth continues for another couple of weeks.

Yup, my tunnel is 28ft x 18ft and vast, but it looks like a tiny wendy house compared to their growing space. But, I guess if you own a nursery your going to utilise that space, lets face it...who wouldn't?

Yes mate you definitely would use it
That's a good size tunnel mate I would love to have a big tunnel but are allotment rules are very strict on buildings

After it died on 24th August I stopped watering my Pumpkin plant and didn't bother checking for female flowers (that I had been carefully pollinating of a morning, but all of them failed).

Yesterday I noticed it had a pumpkin about 15 feet along the main vine.

P.S. I have a second, smaller pumpkin plant and today the last pumpkin on it failed.

Quite a good haul from my pumpkin patch this year.

                  DSC08842 - Copy.JPG

I planted six 'Jack O'Lantern' plants, which between them have produced 15 pumpkins of various sizes and shapes.

The four cylindrical shape fruits in the photo (two at each end) are not Jack O'Lantern, but the product of a random seedling which grew in the pumpkin patch, probably from a seed in the compost heap after I dug in a load at the start of the season.

I think it's probably some kind of courgette/pumpkin hybrid, a result of cross pollination in last year's plants. It will be interesting to see what they taste like. :)

My two outside plants mostly kept going and I had a fruit on each, until last week when one started rotting...so it was composted.

Just this morning the second and my last has also started rotting, so another year "pumpkinless" for me.

I'll get a photo of the last one tomorrow but it wont last long enough to be carved, so that's the end for me this year.

                    Steve...:)

Nice one Trunky, great little haul you have there. The "long" ones would make great minions if carved for Halloween, I had planned to do that with mine this year.

                      Steve...:)
