I take my pleasure where I can :roflol:

Technically a tender perennial but realistically it is best grown as an annual.

If it is in the ground it stays out all winter. In a pot I would put it under glass. Basically in the first year I keep it in a pot and then in the spring of its second year I plant it out. It will bloom in early summer of its second year and the same every year after that.

I've done it right so far then :)

It's one I grew from seed last year ( thank you ) and I kept in in last Winter, it's been planted out since about May but hasn't flowered.so I can leave it out then and hope for flowers next year :)

Usually I would have expected it to bloom in its second season but in all fairness it has not been a good summer for growing Salvia.

I bought this one as a young plant in bud @longk and it is a shorter variety about 2ft high but multi branched. It is also spineless but I don't know if it is available from seed.

Do you know how hardy Salvia Amistad is? Hot Lips and Icing Sugar have taken -7/8c here no problem, is it as hardy?

That's a shame. I need the taller varieties as I want to do a patch of Amaranthus and Cleome next year.

I haven't overwintered it properly yet (it was a cutting last winter) but it will not be as hardy as the shrubby Salvias. The parents are thought to be S.gauranitica (quite hardy) and S.gesneriiflora (not hardy) so I would treat it like the Wish series and lift it in the autumn, drop it in a large pot and shove it in the shed.

Thanks @longk, Amistad is in a pot, it was only a fiver and over 2ft high from B&Q. I bought it without knowing where it could go. Next spring it will go in the ground and take the place of something else.
