Probably a bit of a tall order but can anyone name this apple for me please.

Really very hard to be accurate from a pic.

    Brogdale do an id service.
They have 2,200 varieties of apples in their Collection!

    http://www.brogdalecollections.org/

They need leaves and fruit AND money.
Last year it was £20 per fruit tree...plus P.P.

It is a wonderful service for people with very old apple varieties who want to preserve them for the future and are interested in the name

At the end of the day if you like the apples/tree then why worry about a name.

The RHS do it...but I believe only for members.

Thank you Silver surfer. :) The apple is in the garden where I'm staying at the moment so I'm not prepared to pay out for identification. It was just a chance that somebody might recognise it here on GC.

There are so many red apples :) A very popular one is Discovery, but the only surefire way of IDing them is using a service as Silver Surfer says.

Cutting one in half and checking whether it's got any red flesh and if the pips are brown yet might help narrow it down a bit.

            Sorry I really must object.
Surely to be correct it must be Freda.
She is after all pregnant, with several baby called Pip inside her.

Well it's definitely not a Granny Smith, could it be a Jon-agold?
