Today I harvested the last of the aubergines:

they havent really ripened properly this year - I should have put those plants at the front of the greenhouse ; still Ive had 4 or 5 proper fruit & those will go in the end of year sauce - cant complain really.

Also started to harvest the tomatoes & other odds & sods for the end of year sauce - cant complain about these but I have to say that the plum toms are no better than the ones I get in tins.. and cost more to produce so I think that next year its just the sweet little salad toms for me:

Finally, another batch of Nargas from the chilli plants, Ive already made over three litres of hot sauce this week which all sold (for the RNLI) so I think these go into flakes & powder later in the year:

Bought my overwintering onion sets today, 80 plump, firm Senshyu sets for £2.28 (35/£1) from a local hardware store where they weigh out what you put in a brown paper bag, hope stores like that continue to thrive.

Tomorrow they'll get planted where potatoes have been harvested, been doing that for nearly 30 years, and be followed by a load of saved garlic cloves. The onions will be planted through Mypex, but I've decided garlic are probably better in open ground.

@OxfordNick Nice crop of Nagas :blue thumb:

I supply the plants to the Bangladeshi community in this area and they all use them whilst they're green. They say that there is a completely different flavour to them when they're green but they leave some to turn red for making pickle. :)

Yep, I planted mine last week.

They went in where the communal coriander had been.

My two-thirds share of this year's harvest.

Last year's plan was to grow and eat the green tops just like spring onions but I couldn't eat them fast enough before rust took hold.

So, I let the bulbs swell. The foliage was seriously infected but when the exterior layers were peeled away, you get some tasty tender scape-like stalks inside.

I planted about 25 cloves from this year's harvest - still not sure what variety they are, though.

Planted half last week [1], second half going in over next few days. Autumn planting Onion sets planted last week in September.

[1] They included some Elephant Garlic cloves dug up in 2015 that I hadn't got around to using (as I had so much of the stuff) but were still firm and OK to use.

I have never grown garlic before and have only just thought about it for this year, after reading posts on here. Do you just break up a bulb from Tescos (other supermarket garlic is available) and put in the cloves....or have to buy specialist ones? I looked at local garden centre but no sign of garlic cloves or anyone to ask.
