I wouldn't use supermarket garlic as its treated with a growth retardant to stop it sprouting in the shops, so it'll only produce small blubs.

You can buy certified seed blubs from nurseries or get hold of some organic ones :)

50 cloves planted, and found these while I was digging the bed over.

Thank you Zigs for blub info; as no nurseries near me, only garden centre - does that mean I can plant Tesco organic blubs?

They should be alright, but check with them they're not treated, don't know what the growth inhibitor is made from, if it's natural, it might be acceptable for organic use :spinning:

Dammit, I forgot to look for that garlic when I was in Waitrose this morning. I've grown Music for many years in the past with great success, but white rot got them a few years ago and it seemed rather expensive to restock from the Really Garlicky Co where I'd got my original seed garlic from.

I also forgot to check whether garlic is on MyWaitrose card holders 'my picks', which would get 20% off instore. Got distracted by seeing free Marmite vouchers in the DM whilst at Waitrose.

But the seeds say otherwise :phew:

Harvested the first cauliflower of the season today.

I only grow autumn/winter varieties and I'm trying 'Aviron' for the first time this year. First impressions are very good; sowed in the greenhouse at the end of June, planted out a month later, they're good sturdy plants, which are now producing good firm solid heads with a pleasantly mild flavour. :)

Also shelled the tongue of fire beans, but the camera wasn't having any of that
