    Hi all,

I've read that it's best to underplant Allium bulbs with something to hide the leaves as they die off .

What I'd like to know is can I sow something like Candytuft seeds over them as I don't have anything perennial to put there ? I can't get any Spring bedding at all, neither The Range or B&Q have any left.

Thanks everyone, any suggestions gladly received :)

PS, got loads of seeds so if you have owt to suggest.....

It is autumn you know :heehee:

The trouble with seed is that the Allium leaves will block the sunlight or flop down onto the seedlings.
Galtonia candicans is a hardy bulb that could be dropped in in the spring..............

      Likewise Eucomis................

Hahaha, you know what I meant, you old burger :roflol:

I like both Galtonia and Eucomis but the trouble is they're in planters and I can't get anymore bulbs in.
I really wanted something like Forget me nots that could then be replaced with something like Callistephus Asters later.

Hiya you got any home bargains near you? Pansy trays were 2.99 today outside.
Shame about bnq I've had a few reduced wallflowers, cyclamen and violas there.. even cabbage leeks and an oregano for 50p each.
How bout snipping the leaves as they die off? Too faffy?

Ah. Is it too late to order in then, I haven't checked any websites in a while now. I like forget-me-nots, fancy the pink ones myself though.

I wouldn't order them now Linz as they're mostly plugs and I think it's a bit late to start planting those.

          Just for you :)

But it won't grow over the Allium foliage as it's a ground hugger :dunno:

              Nicotiana?
Nicotiana langsdorfii grows to about 50cm tall................

It might be pushing it a bit considering the size of the planter but N.sylvestris might be worth a punt. It grows to about 1.5 to 2 metres and has huge foliage............

Ok, I'm having one of those days, I hadn't thought of that. I was just thinking about the flowers.

I love Nicotiana but they're too late, they're Summer' I want Spring things.

Do you think I'm being a bit too fussy :roflol:

Yup! Allium foliage is still pretty ok in the spring. What other bulbs are in the planters?
