Probably best not to have a post on the SNP leaders . Never been one to agree with the Daily Mail , but the post above does ring home a touch .

What`s with the Scots electing fish anyway. First Salmon (sic) then Sturgeon. Who next, Keith Kipper?

Lets be fair, Scotlands oil revenue is drying up, so they need the hand outs from the EU to support an independent Scotland. Also, Amanda Patell, it is not just English taxpayers the Scots are ripping off. It is the Welsh and Northern Irish as well. Scotland gets more help than Wales and Ireland put together.

I say this genuinely without malice.

Perhaps it is the natural right time for Scotland to claim independence. It would be a blow to the UK. But we'd all live. Scotland would be stuffed for a few years, as tourism would drop for fear of hostility, oil revenues will run out, and science and engineering would dry up once it stopped being lucrative to tap into scotlands convenient geography. There'd be a generation of resentment when people realised that they'd been shafted on the whim of a couple of intellectually challenged individuals. But they'll live, we'll live, and perhaps just like a teenager has to be an idiot to learn, and that's aimed at all of us, not just Scots, perhaps it's just the right time to see what happens.

I can't join in this discussion because I know nothing about the economics of it but I can categorically state that I haven't the faintest what those charts are demonstrating. :dunno:

I'm not disputing the veracity of them but there's no explanation of what they are, how the figures are derived and their relevance to the living conditions and local economics.

The first one is prior to the 2008 crash so can't possibly be valid for 2016 from a GDP point of view. I presume the figures are referring to the percentage spend of each area's revenue which would have had some significance at the time. Although, in my younger days, I used to be able to demonstrate how official figures can be manipulated to back any argument (local politicians and officials used to really dislike me turning up at public council meetings :heehee:).

The second one is, presumably, some sort of figure per head of population but can't be a straight comparison otherwise the UK figure would be an average of the others :noidea:. So there must be some other significance and correlation between them.

So Scotland raises £8000 in taxes?
England only about £7500, what exactly does that mean? per person??
And it looks like Scotland raises more than the UK.
                        Total bunkum.

@pete I don't doubt that the chart actually means something but without explanation it does seem peculiar. :dunno:
