Good luck with your new car

Colours of cars have trends - and other influences. The Model-T Ford was not black originally but after the first five years Henry Ford started to make most of them black to reduce the price. In those days it was much cheaper to use black paint and easier for the 'production line' if they were all the same colour.

In more recent times, for some reason, green has not been popular because it was thought to be unlucky :noidea:. I had a green car in the 70's which was very good :blue thumb: for the first six months- until a drunken driver hit it a 70 m.p.h. and wrote it off!

In the 1990's the insurance for red cars was higher than other colours because statistically they had more accidents. There was a big fuss kicked up about it and the higher rates were eventually dropped. It turned out that they hadn't studied the data properly and it was more because red cars were bought by young drivers and it was young drivers, as a group, that had more accidents.

Through the 'noughties' silver became more popular as the price of metallic finishes dropped to nearer the price of plain colours.

Now white cars are the trend because most manufacturers are charging less for them than for colours. Colour is now an 'optional extra' :dunno:

Some interesting info there FC and Shiney, thanks. :)

I've owned one green car, not by choice of colour but because it was a good buy at the time. Again, green cars come second in line to silver, not because I don't like the colour but the fact green has followed me all my life. With the exception of nature I try to avoid it.

So white cars are less likely to get pulled up , as they don't want to "pot" a white. That's 4 away

Thanks everyone, I'm so looking forward to being back with you all! :) Being garden-less in my current abode and the absence of GC and everyone here, it's just toooooo much! Withdrawal symptoms are getting to me. However, the weather's been great and currently 15C, so Mr S and I have been out and about scouting our new area.

@"M" that skyping will be three ways now with my elder daughter still on Man. Oh, by the way I got the day wrong, Wednesday we get the phone line.

I wish I could say @Sheal that our Autumns are always like this! Glorious sunshine for the last god knows how long, no rain and really quite warm during the day anyway. Have had the log burner on only once since last spring. Do hope the house hunting is going well. Normally Spring is when most properties up here come on the market but maybe you will be lucky and find what you are looking for before then.
