Autumnwatch is on at 8pm on bbc2 tonight if anyone is interested. I missed it last night so I'll have to catch up!
Not bad but still a bit infantile at times. Packhams extolling the fantastic view of the Avocets was from in the NT hide at Middlebere, across the channel from Arne not Arne itself that is MY hide!!!!! Avoiding Arne at the moment as it is too crowded with folk hunting celebrity presenters.
One of the few programmes the BBc churn out that I watch. Just a pity theyve got yet another boring badger camera yet again. God they are obsessed with "qute" badgers. Badgers eat hedghogs thats why you dont see hedgehogs now. Cull them. That should get the forum abit busier
Nah they're obsessed with the deer rut in Springwatch! Just seen the ladybird spider that's on tomorrow. Should be interesting and it's on at 9pm cos of the Bakeoff.
I have to agree. I love Wild Life programs but the presenters of Autumn watch seem to push themselves forward and dumb down everything. Different strokes for different folks and seasons, I guess.
It hasn't been up to its usual standard (too much focus on the deer) but still better than most of the rubbish on TV and I was glad to see last night that finally someone has done research and had it publicised on the show that rarely, if ever do badgers come in to contact with cattle, so the bovine TB is not directly coming from the badger but another way!! Just hope the BBC don't reprise their threat of sacking Martin for winterwatch an springwatch!!
The fact that it is called Bovine as in cattle is a hint as to where the disease comes from in the first place so I wonder if it is the cows that are somehow infecting each but probably the farmers don't want to admit itI also read years ago that deer and other animals are carriers of the disease and I thought that a vaccination was on the horizon i get bored with the mouse maze. It don't mind the deer slot (scuse pun) as it isn't that often we get to see the beautiful Sika deer as it is normally the Red Deer they always go on about so I found that refreshing Michaela Strachan doesn't even live in this country so I would rather her get sidelined not the lovely Martin Hughes-Games and he is well qualified to take part each year I do look forward to it each year as it makes a refreshing change to some of the rubbish that seems to be on the telly at the moment I didn't realise that badgers were one of the main predators of hedgehogs,I always thought it was just cars
You will find if it's a badger that have killed a hedgehog you will see the skin turned inside out, also fox's will kill hedgehogs, All mamals can get BTB and spread it, even humans (has the farmers been tested) years ago all farm boundaries had to be fenced(doudle fencing) so that cattle don't touch noses(some farms only have a single fence or gate in places) as it can be spread that way, Disinfection of vehicals and humans going beteewn farms is more or less, does not happern, one farmer feeding and cleaning poo up for another farmer and not disinfecting beteewn the two, Dead calfs are taken the the local hunt and feed the hounds then thoose hounds go back across farmers fields and the hounds have a poo, do they pick up, NO, if a calf could have BTB from it's mother could it be pasted to the hound or go though the hound then pooed in another farmers field, There's lots of things that need to be addressed In by life of driving to farms on a daily bases i've only been disinfected two/three times in 20 years, shocking, wasn't driving in foot and mouth year, but even then there were farmers not using it till it was on there door step Edit And then there are the sheep farmers which some don't own land and rent fields from farmers through the winter months moving from farm to farm, then, put that with the hunt moving through and contracters farm to farm it's alot of movement between farms and then you have public rights of way to add in as well Look at how Foot and Mouth spread, we've forgot about that
A friend of mine here was asked to do a fungii search for them at Arne and they took loads of pics and film for a special fungii slot, what did they show? about four photos, he was peed off due to the time he spent with them. Going to Arne often in the Winter I really can't see there being a lot more to show than this one, more of the same. Even worse, they won't see mating Deer!!!!!!!!!!!!!
