So, we're at that time again (almost).

Did you know that all member countries in the EU synchronise DST (Daylight Saving Time) according to Directive 2000/84/EC? :rolleyespink:

There are approximately 70 countries in the world that have a form of DST.

Yesterday was their annual symposium (meeting and booze up) whether to keep it or dump it.

Some countries, or areas of countries, want to keep us on DST (clocks put forward for summer) because it helps boost the tourist trade. This allows the daylight to be longer in the afternoon/evening and people stay out more.

Others say it also saves power surges because homes don't switch things on until later, when businesses are reducing consumption.

Then there are the opposite arguments about safety because of having it light earlier in the morning in winter. This, apparently, saves accidents on the road and (for some reason ) less heart attacks.

As the effect of daylight changes is more pronounced the further from the equator you go there will always be different valid arguments.

    Discuss! :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

P.S. you're supposed to wait until 2 a.m. Sunday morning to put your clocks back. :heehee:

You only get the same amount of day light, it's just that we are a lazy world and cann't get up when it gets light :snorky:

I would be happy if they didn't move the clocks forward and back

They tried not adjusting the clocks for two years. If my memory serves correctly it was 1969 and 1970. It returned in 1971. The official reason (at the time) for its reinstatement was a marked increase in crimes such as rape, child molestations.

But which way would you want them to keep it on?

Got back from holiday in Tenerife last week . These Spanish islands use the GMT time zone , but are far further west - almost a full time zone. It only came light around 8:00AM but the sun only set around 07:45PM. This was perfect for a walk to a bar and watch the sun set over the Atlantic , while sipping a Mojito. :blue thumb:
The USA has DST , but Hawaii and Arizona don't observe it . I think the DST clock change times are now synchronised . At one time the USA changed a week earlier which caused chaos with the telephone meetings I used to have with the LA head office.
