    Hi Pete,,

In the end, Hillary Clinton got just over 48% of the vote and Trump got just over 47 %. Not a great difference I admit but there again neither was the brexit vote.

This is the second time in 16 years this has happened as Al Gore had a decisive victory over George W. Bush in 2000 but didn't become President.

This is cracking quote from a couple of years ago.......

" The electoral college system is a disaster for democracy".

    Guess who said that.

Have a look at CNN or any major news agency at " popular vote results ".

PS..... the quote was from a certain Mr D. J. Trump .

        Now that's ironic :)

I wonder if he now wishes he hadn't said that Lol

Yes but that works both ways. I can remember for the last 25 odd years seeing the SNP getting virtually no seats in past elections because they were just getting slightly too few votes to win a seat but still getting a healthy percentage. There was no PR then and no one cared because Labour/Conservatives were getting all the seats.
Its changed now and as they are getting a higher vote they are getting the seats.

The hypocrisy is amazing now. THe anti Brexit voters wanted to rerun the election because they lost, the Democrat voters have taken to the streets because they lost the vote, whats that all about ?

If I win respect the result,If I loose its unfair and I want a rerun. Trump has basically followed this approach too.

          Hi WeeTam,

I think you could have phrased some of your comments a little better......

" The anti brexit voters wanted to..... " , I think it would be fairer to say that a few wanted to. You'll find that most of the public ,including myself respect the result.

" The Democrat voters have taken to the streets because they lost the vote .... ", actually they're taking to the streets because they WON the vote but lost out to the system.

I agree, Wee Tam, but don't ask me to respect the agenda of extremists who value their own views rather than those of their people.

Which is my point entirely about Salmond and Sturgeon, as Sturgeon wants a rerun of the Independence Referendum because it wasn't the answer that she and the SNP wanted rather than the Scottish people.:dunno::coffee::snorky:

Fair enough. But they were signing some sad electronic petition by the tens of thousands calling on a rerun. Brexit voters were labelled as un educated racists. And now the 3 Amigos have stepped in to slow the process down because some rich Banker has said she thinks its not right that OUR Prime Minister has the power to start article 50?

Can you clarify who are you referring to as "extremists"?

It would certainly bother those that are reliant on the tourist industry. After Canada and Mexico, the UK is the biggest tourist trade for the U.S. (U.S. government statistics) The current prediction is that up to one million fewer Brits will travel to the U.S. in the next twelve months.

I agree but we can speculate on what might happen :blue thumb:. That's usually all we can do about what goes on over here as well

Are you talking about Labour,Conservative,SNP, Republicans and Democrats ?

Calling any peaceful party voters extremists is a bit strong. When I hear the word "extremists" I think of the Isis fighters chopping off the heads of men women and children or terrorists carrying out bombings.

I cant see how someone voting for their political party can be labelled as extremist ?

Thats the slippery slope to political violence.

That's being worked on at the moment. There's a move afoot to redistribute the constituencies so that each one has about the same. I haven't the faintest how they would actually manage it.
