...an unexpected harvest of spuds from the garden.

Last year I dug some left over spuds into the garden. Tidying up this afternoon, in between the calendula - potato shoots. Pulled then up and voila - enough spuds for 2 meals.

A nice surprise - currently being boiled - before being buttered and yummed up.

    Isn't nature marvellous :spinning:

Today I am grateful for my 2 month old grand daughter, whom I got to babysit while my daughter went to work. Our little angel is so sweet!

Today I am grateful that by pure chance, I was born and raised in Britain. If even a fraction of the news is accurate, most of the rest of the world is a pretty scary place at the moment.

News only reports the worst news they can find. I love it when a hurricane hits and some poor dummy news caster is standing out in the rain, wind blowing sideways, so they can tell us how bad it is.

Today I am grateful for the beautiful day we had. I am grateful for our good friend and neighbor who helped my husband rehang our front gate. It is a 16' gate and was sagging. My son-in-law and I put it up when we bought the property to help deter thieves as the house was broken into during financing and they stole the air conditioning unit outside, the furnance inside, ripped out the breaker box and even crawled under the house and cut out all the copper wire they could reach. It was August, temps ran in the 100's Fahrenheit and it was HOT. The ground was hard and all we had was a pair of hand operated post hole diggers. We didn't do the greatest job, but it was adequate and we could close it and lock it.

So today, my husband and neighbor dug up the 8"x8"x8' gate post and reset it. They braced it with a straight 4"x4" post and a slanted 4"x4" post to make a H brace with a "Z". They rehung the gate and now it doesn't sag and swings freely. It took them all day. I am so grateful for my lovely gate!

I painted a chest of drawers in the warm sunshine. Then I went in and mixed up fruitcake batter with lots of goodies in it. While they baked, I went back outside and put another coat of paint on the chest. The pullets laid some nice eggs, I fed them, the horses and sheep. I am grateful for the time I had today to paint the chest, it was one of those projects that I've been wanting to get done. I took the fruitcakes out of the oven, a small one my husband can eat now, one for Thanksgiving and one for our good neighbor and his wife.

I've been unable to drive in the dark for a few years because my eyes don't seem to adjust to it.
Today we went out for the day and had a lovely lunch, and although we had to 'rush' home while it was still light, I am grateful that we were able to go out at all and had a lovely day :yay:

Is it that your eyes don't work so well in the dark, or that your night vision is destroyed by the laser canons that pass for headlights these days on oncoming cars?

If it's the latter, there may be a solution. Certainly it works for me.

There are special night time driving glasses available. I own a pair. They're only about 20 quid. They are lightly tinted to filter out the part of the light spectrum that destroys night vision, but without shading anything. They are also polarised so glare is virtually eliminated. They also fit over normal glasses apparently, but I can't really comment there because I don't wear prescription glasses.

Thanks for your help @clueless1 but it's the first one - my eyes don't work well in the dark any more.
I have varifocal glasses and I'm not sure whether they are the cause of it. They're fine in the day but in the night everything looks as if it's on a flat screen instead of 3D.

I could have done with a pair of those night glasses years ago. They sound brilliant

@Michael Hewett I'd be inclined to go to the optician and ask their opinion. They may be able to do something for you. I have bifocals which I wear virtually all the time but also have to other pairs of glasses that are single vision types. One is just for when I'm working at my computer or my desk and they are a middle focus lens which gives me very clear vision from about 2ft - 5ft. The other is a distance lens for driving. This can be made to suit your vision for night driving. :blue thumb:

It depends on the size of the postage stamp. This one's as big as a dinosaur! :hate-shocked:
