The US and Russia have joined forces in civil terms for decades. Such is the sheer absurdity of the current political tension that while political and military posturing is going on, both sides are still jointly investing huge sums into scientific research and development. Same between Russia and western Europe and Britain. While imposing sanctions and showing off military hardware to each other, scientists belonging to both sides are sharing the ISS, a little isolated tin can in orbit. It's madness.

As for China. They have the means to defeat all of us. And it was us that voluntarily gave them that power. We voluntarily invested in a regime that has a very long history of both oppression and imperialist conquest.

Back to Trump. He is a horrible man. But how can he not have a point? Russia has always objected to the US going around creating power vacuums in areas that are already very volatile. The US and UK 'did the right thing' by toppling saddam. Look how that went. Now the whole world faces the scurge of IS. They're doing it again in Syria right now, a country that is already IS territory and we're trying to break the only state organised security there. It's madness. Trump has indicated that he recognises this.

Meanwhile, while plenty of people are picking on Russia for attempting to bring stability where we frankly failed, few bat and eyelid at the fact that Britain continues to sell military hardware to Saudi Arabia, despite compelling evidence that Saudi Arabia is using said kit against civilian targets in Yemen.

While double standards are rife, and everyone is seeking to prove that they are right, war drags on and people, including kids, are being killed and injured and orphaned. It's just insane.

It's just the Human Planet, and it has been happening for thousands of years so there's no change there.

The only way Russia could bring stability to Syria is to kill every one who opposes President Assad and then occupy the country fully for decades to repress all opposition, which is quite possibly what it might do. Putin has, because of his expansionist agenda, wanted and has got a permanent sea port and a airfield in Syria. That was his real purpose in annexing Crimea as he then took back vital sea ports in the Black Sea. As I pointed out months ago, every day not many miles from you on the East Coast Russian Bombers carrying nuclear missiles fly in to test the UK's air defences and have been doing so since the 60's, that's fact not fiction. If you think he's doing that to deliver Red Cross Parcels I think you're gravely mistaken.:dunno::snorky:

I've kind of got bored with this thread but now its got away from Trump bashing and onto Syria............
We lost out, we should have gone in an joined Assad against IS, but instead we ponced around with the usual "kill the Dictator" change the regime approach.
Russia got in there and got ahead of us.

So now we are on the sidelines making silly noises and not able to do anything without causing real problems with Russia.

                Erm  typo? :dunno:
The UK voters elected the Conservative party over and above the Labour party ;)
Unless I'm very much mistaken, in *this* country we elect a political *party* (for which there is a figurehead as a representative of their party policies) and the head/leader of that party becomes the Prime Minister. Ergo: it is not a personality contest, but a political *party* contest.
In the US, they elect a P.R.E.S.I.D.E.N.T - a person; a person with a particular political persuasion but, a person as a figurehead for their country; who may, or may not, have a particular political allegiance. Either way, that *person* is bound by the constraints of congress which may, or may not, hold the same values/ideals as the President Elected.
The day the UK sees their Prime Minister as a "celebrity" and forget that they are actually voting for a political party and its fundamental ideals is a very, very (!) sad day indeed!!!! The day democracy dies, in my opinion ;)

The world is on the brink. We either work together or we destroy everything we have worked for over the past 60+ years.

                                Yes I know, but....

Sadly I've discovered that quite a few people are actually not educated enough to realise this. But that's not a point i was interested in making.

Mainly, I was simplifying in order to draw approximate parallels to illustrate my point about the utter absurdity of a situation where an entire nation seems to have a collective bipolar disorder when it comes to choosing their next leader.
