I have had an up and down experience with Sweet Peas over the years . In fact was not going to grow them again a couple of years ago. Luckily someone on here suggested Charlies Angels , these have grown and flowered really well :blue thumb: Next season I would like a change - any suggestions to a top performing Sweet Pea ? Not show standard , just something to clamber up my trellis and flower and flower and flower !
    TIA

I would recommend the heirloom variety Cupani...............

My own personal favourite is Lathyrus sativus "Azureus"..............

Not the greatest doer and it's not fragrant but it is a real eyecatcher!

Cupani are the only ones that seem to do well in my garden or a spencer mix, any others just seem to get eaten.

I love the blue ones, had a look for seed earlier in the year but couldn't find any except online and they were quite expensive just for 10 seeds!

Not that dear - they produce seed freely thereafter!
I think that I sent some in my parcel for the seed swap

I thought they wouldn't come true so never bothered to collect any sweet pea seeds, always buy new each year. Parcel hasn't come round yet, looking forward to it even more now :blue thumb:

@longk , I did grow SP Matucana a few years ago this flowered very well. It is similar to the Cupani . I presume they are very early types from the 18th century ?
Nice flowers but I do prefer the softer pastel colours.

I grew those this year and they were lovely; very fragrant.
But, my best performer this year, by far, was "Anniversary"
                  CIMG0016.JPG

Lovely, delicate, fragrance; some long stems (so good for cutting) and it lasted right up until the first frost the other week.

I started ordering my 2017 seeds this week . Just got a lot of seeds for about £1 a packet on Ebay , mainly from Premier Seeds and JustSeeds.
Thanks all for the SP advice above :blue thumb: The Sweet Pea I opted for, after some searching , is a Spencer variety - Our Harry - It can't fail with a name like that
The SP's and Chillies will be the first seeds planted in early February .
