I'm afraid I agree with Sheal on this one. I think if I was Hydrogardener I'd feel disappointed at the way my suggestion was being taken. He specifically said it was about the lights, decorations etc.

Perhaps Woo could put Hydrogardeners full brief onto the December competition thread just to avoid any more confusion.

It's a pity that the comments about the suitability were put on here without first sending them in a PM to Woo to get the official answer to the original statement. He has already stated that a wide interpretation is acceptable according to the rules. He would easily have got it confirmed by Hydro.

To tell people who have already put their entries in that they are not following the theme is devisive and should be left to Woo to decide. After all, he is in charge. All it has done is create upset and ruined this month's competition. There are times that I don't think an entry fits the bill but I simply don't vote for that entry. I don't tell the person or persons that went to the trouble of entering the competition that they shouldn't have done so.

I hope it doesn't ruin all the following competitions.

Goodness me I am a patient Owl but I am shocked and very dissapointed I shall contact my Admin friends and as I have caused this I will offer my resignation,There is no point in continuing with the comp as it is your comp and if it hasn't got your support it won't work.

It was just a photo comp just something that was meant to be enjoyed ,there is a lot more I would like to say, but my position as part of the Asmin team prevents Woo from saying anymore

        These are only mt thoughts

I will leave the December Comp open but I feel it has run its course.
its always been very difficult to run and satisfy everyone ,it has always had its critics, and now they seems they have succeeded it their objective.

It would have been nice if you would have PM'ed Woo with your concerns and we could have sorted this out between us

          @wiseowl Please don't resign. :grphg:

It's unfortunate that an out of place comment has caused this problem but all of us appreciate the hard work that you put into the competitions and support what you do for us.

This is an unfortunate situation that shouldn't have occurred and I'm sure that it won't occur in the future.

An appeal to everyone:- if you have any questions or negative comments about the way the competitions are run then please direct them to the correct place by PM. Woo puts in an enormous amount of effort and any criticism reflects, unjustly, on him. It is his position to say whether an entry fits the bill and our position to not vote for anything we think doesn't. :noidea:

I haven't entered as it's a hard one for me, but if i can i would, some comp's are easy to get things others can be hard depending on the person and where you live

@wiseowl , you do a very good job with the photo comps, please stay

I may be a bit quite for a while as things have got a bit pear shape here not GC

I do not believe that you have caused this woo so there is absolutely no need for you to resign over it :grphg:

To be absolutely fair, hydrogardener chose that theme weeks ago and if he had a specific thinking over how it should have been interpreted (e.g. lights/decorations) then that was the time to have stated it. Previous winners choosing the next theme have done just that, submitted a title and a brief word on how to interpret the title. If no brief was forthcoming at the opening of the competition then, to my mind, it is unfair to then narrow the focus when entries have already been submitted. But then, by that same token, a brief was only given because clarity was asked for. The cultural differences also need to be taken into consideration. As hydro has stated in New York outdoor decorations are in abundance: residences, businesses, public parks, shopping areas. It just isn't as big here (crikey, my local park doesn't even have lighting at any time of year :roflol: ).

Slap it back, Jack! I liked it and it tickled my funny bone because that is the sort of thing I would think of when I see "Holiday spirit" as a theme :Wino:

Woo YOU have not caused this, You are needed Woo, the comps you run help keep GC going, there is more to life than gardening and we share it with our Photographs, from beginner to Pro

We come in from our days wearies, and we can get garden help, have a laugh at the jokes, be competitive in the photo challenge

Photo challenge Bath time, does not mean sit in a bath naked and post that, you improvise, show a scruffy urchin, or chimney sweep
If you live in the sticks, and there is no Easter Bunny parade, you compromise and stick a few painted hens eggs up

Most of all WE can not do that if YOU ARE NOT HERE, Please do not FLY your nest, Speak to Phil the Greek about it when they visit

                        Cheers Woo

As I said earlier @wiseowl, this is not your fault but mine for rocking the boat in the first place. There is nothing wrong with the way you are running the competitions and my gripe here is not about that. I offer you my apologies for the upset this has caused you.

@shiney the title of this thread is 'Photo Discussion Thread 2016' which is why I posted my comments here about the photo's. Perhaps with hindsight I should have run it past Woo first via PM but unfortunately I can't undo what has been done.

However, my opinion of the theme for this competition still stands in support of Hydrogardener's request. Because I've caused an upset here amongst members regarding my own level of acceptance and standards required, it leaves me with no other choice but to withdraw from the competitions for the foreseeable future.

I have to admit I had difficulty trying to relate a pic to the theme for Dec so I just gave it my best shot. Thinking was garden is dying now but will celebrate with a whisky over the festive to the coming gardening year.
Anyhow we will all have different perspectives on interpretation and to me it is self governing in as much that if an image doesn't match the theme (in your opinion) then don't vote for it, one can still like it as an image but not vote if thought to be off the theme.
