I agree. I don't like it shoved in all types of sandwiches. Nor do I like cheese and pickle sandwiches and similarly messed around with ingredients. Having said that, I'm too stingy to pay the exorbitant price they charge for filled sandwiches. I can make a whole loaf of sandwiches for the price they charge for one!

I was at a local farm shop around lunch time the other day and they were doing things properly. All sandwiches were being made to order with a choice of almost any filling. The bread was baked on the premise, the meats were all from local farms, a wide choice of salad fillings was available and pickles and dressings were all 'homemade' products. All sandwiches were £2.75. They're in a village 10 miles from the nearest town and there was a very big queue of customers - being served quickly by five young ladies. :dbgrtmb:

      Sounds delish @shiney !
Never understood Mayo in sandwiches! I have noticed on some pre-packed sandwiches (from tesco/co-op I think) they have a No mayo sign circled on the front but I'm sure this is only limited to ham, just cheese or duck wraps.

Oh well that's ok then ... as long as the mayonnaise is of the highest standard who are we to complain! :dunno: :roflol:

Totally understand that, but it's the principle rather than the risk of getting drunk which is why son won't have anything with alcohol in it. I've never got legless on mouthwash either ... but I have to buy that alcohol free too :heehee:

Those of you in the legal profession please block your ears while I , RANT RANT RANT:wow::gaah::gaah::gaah::yikes::yikes::yikes:. I have just opened a letter from my solicitor re husband and I having Power of Attorney for each of us set up pre, just:), us going gaga.
God god almighty, I am now the "proud" owner of a bill for damn nearly £700. The paper work is bog standard and we didn't even bother to read the forms when we went to sign them as I am the person responsible on my Brother's POA and so knew exactly what was on the forms. Hell we weren't in the solicitor's office for more than about 5 minutes and we didn't even discuss the matter.
Am I THAT out of touch with what things cost these days? I did know you could do a sort of DIY 1 but was a bit dubious as to whether that would be accepted should the POAs ever be needed.I do know that they can be even more expensive to set up if there is doubt as to somebody's competance to sign and horryingly expensive if courts get involved.
Even so £700 seems an obscene amount of money, that does include the registration fees of £70 each which is also a hefty sum for some clerk to write our names and addresses in some register I expect.
To add insult to injury, at the bottom of the bill in bold type it states if you don't pay the bill within 14 days you'll get charged an admin fee of £75 plus fing VAT.....................jeeeeesssss
I'm all for people earning a good wadge of money but I feel like I've almost been robbed!
Off for a large glass of wine to soften the blow. Just as well we don't really "do" Christmas these days otherwise it might have been a pretty meagre affair with the bank balance having been severely dented.

@silu I'm sorry to hear about the exorbitant fee. In Scotland it costs £74 (per POA) to register the LPA (£110 in England) and solicitors can charge what they like :rolleyespink: The charge usually varies between £200 and £500 (not heard of it being done for less).

For other people who may be thinking of doing one you can do it yourself, online, by downloading the forms from the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) and then sending the completed forms, with the money, to the OPG.

If you completed one each then you would have paid £74 each for registration and £275 each for the solicitor's fees. Money for old rope!

Before 2007 they had Enduring Power of Attorney (replaced by Lasting PA) and they didn't need to be registered. They also were much cheaper for a solicitor to do (half the number of pages). :noidea:

Solicitors do charge a lot and for any standard type work you should always ask them the cost beforehand. You can always shop around.

Wills are another situation where it's best to get a solicitor unless you don't have much that may be complicated. Then you could get it done by a will writer who will be cheaper (you can also do it yourself).

If anyone thinks they should get their will done (everyone should) then it may be cheaper to wait until November. Each November there is Will Aid. Quite a lot of solicitors are in the scheme and they do the job for nothing but ask you to make a donation for the charity. A few years ago they were suggesting £75 but it would have increased by now. I use the service for some of the disadvantaged people that I look after. Most are struggling on benefits and don't have to give anything - but they all insist on giving something as it's for charity and I suggest £25. The solicitor that I take them to handles the situation brilliantly. :dbgrtmb:
