Do you not have Christmas crackers at the dinner table? :hate-shocked: Those silly paper hats come inside them! This is from our "xmas meal" the other night, they have GOT to be worn! LOL!!
    me and aunty hayley.jpg

Or yorkie puds?! They're not just for beef in my house .. I don't do the brandy stuff though. Yuk.

and this.. "Boxing Day is Christmas part two"! Definitely, everything you couldn't eat the day before gets stuffed in a sandwich (for each meal) finished off with all those chocolates from the big tins/tubs and a few drinks :dbgrtmb:

Can you think of anything Americans do differently to us at christmas time?

My mother (a Yorkshire woman) served Yorkshire puddings with every roast we had ... even "vegetarian" roast dinners (which, for my mother, meant a roast dinner simply without the joint :loll: ).
Now, the whole point about Yorkshire pudding was that it was served not *with* roast beef :nonofinger: but *before* the roast beef meal. Yorkshire pudding and gravy was, effectively, the starter and its purpose was to fill you up thus reducing the need/desire/hunger for a large portion of meat with the main meal ;) (Beef was very expensive!).
Mind you, looking at those Yorkshire puds in the link ... (pale, undercooked, positively anaemic ... think I would be feeding those to the cattle as a starter  :heehee: )

Certainly was in our house: it was my mother's Birthday :yahoo: We would have relations visit on Boxing Day to continue the tradition my father put in place - which was to take her out at lunchtime for a Guinness :heehee: Until she met him, she had put up with the one gift at that time of year, with the excuse of: "Oh! Yes, erm ... it's your Christmas *and* birthday gift in one (:phew:)" So, he made a point of making *her* day just a little bit special and memorable in an effort to make up for it  Fab for us children because, for us, it meant ... more presents, more food and more FUN!!!!!!
Here, Boxing Day is "leftovers" day, but with the proviso that we do not use the word "leftovers" - oh no :nonofinger: - we have "cold cuts" :roflol: with mashed potatoes, coleslaw and pickles ;) Everything else is put on the "Buffet" table :heehee:

According to my son who lives in America @Linz, Christmas crackers aren't available there. I don't know if they have them in Canada, @CanadianLori could answer this for us as I've not thought to ask my daughter. :)

I have seen Christmas Crackers, don't buy them. Usually if I have a New Years Eve party, I will get New Years Eve Crackers. But generally, its not a thing we bring to the table for Christmas Day.

We don't have the Christmas Pudding thing, which looks lovely. Just pies again, usually pecan, or more pumpkin.

But guess, should remind you, we have Thanksgiving, so just the month prior was a huge celebration "foodie" day. But your Christmas is the first for you.

They have forgotten #22: Syllabub....Christmas is not Christmas without that! We need that in case the brandy runs out! :Wino: :snork:

Replacing the lead that they removed years ago. Petrol...er gravy... has never tasted the same since then! :snork:

                        looking at the list again.
Never had a mince pie, ever.
                        Twiglets???? will check Amazon.
Bread sauce???--think I will pass that one.
Have to make Christmas Pudding one day--never had, never seen here.
Harrods Brandy Butter ---looks interesting--maybe Amazon carries it.

So I see how the bacon wrapped sausages are a necessary moment?. I put sausage in my stuffing.

Yup, sausage meat stuffing is also an accompaniment to the meal (you can see why we all feel so stuffed after the dinner :loll: )

Its a repeat of Thanksgiving. We get stuffed then, and the "men" hang and watch the football game, women clean up the kitchen, dining room.

My stuffing is sausage, apple, walnuts, celery, onions, sage, eggs, cubed bread, salt, pepper. After many years of tasting others, I came to this combo.
