The main site for old and classic cars is:
          www.carandclassic.co.uk

But like nearly all online sites there are no checks on buyers - so scammers can easily use it.

Your Father-In-Law's car must have more value than just scrap, I looked on ebay and found a really rough looking 100E had sold for £465 in Oct

          ebay 100E sold in Oct

Scrap values have fallen over the last couple of years, so you'll be lucky to find someone to come and collect and actually give you any money.

It might be worth thinking of advertising the lot as a collection on carandclassic or ebay just to get rid of them in one go. If there are other car spares/parts/engines list those too as restorers are on the look out for old parts for their projects.

Thought I had better update this thread:smile:

Mr Kandy has received another email this evening from another potential customer and in conversation with this gentleman,he wanted to know if the car was a runner and Mr Kandy pointed out that the car hasn't run for over forty years as stated in the advert so this chap hadn't read the advert properly. He asked Mr Kandy how much he wanted for the car and so Mr Kandy said any reasonable offer so the chap has come back with an offer of £500 for the car:wow:

In another email this chap said he can't come to pick the car up this weekend as he needs to sort out a trailer and we have other things going on this weekend anyway.I have told Mr Kandy that if this is genuine (I shall believe it when I see it:snorky:) then to no way accept a cheque and it is a cash only sale.:yay:

Anyway,we shall see if this guy does come to see the wreck/car because where the car is housed is a good 17 miles from us and we shall probably have to get others involved to get it shifted so that it can be taken from the garage onto the trailer.I think if this does turn out to be another scammer I shall suggest to Mr Kandy that the car is scrapped off,and the money go to the RNLI etc,as they are one of the charities who take your old cars off of you and whatever they get for them they keep the money which helps their charity so it is a win win situation :yay:

            Any thoughts would be helpful,Thanks:smile:

How will you get it out of the garage? Are the tyres inflated? Lots of other questions such as those occur to me. :dunno:

I had also thought of this @shiney and Mr Kandy reckons that the tyres might just need some air in them, but I expect everything is seized up due to it standing there for so long.:snorky:

When Mr Kandy said he would only accept cash for the car the chap went quiet and we have heard no more from him so I reckon he wanted to pay by cheque which would bounce then he could scrap the car off and keep the scrap money. We don't even know where the guy lives,we only have his name that he put in the email that came through on Mr Kandys phone....

I scrapped a car last year, 1 scrap yard offered me £19 for it. Snag was, they wanted £29 to come and get it. In they end, I got a local yard to come and get for nothing.

I don't think it has occurred to Mr Kandys sister that sometimes these cars cost more to come and fetch these lumps of scrap metal but as the brains of this family are not wired like our brains are then trying to get that fact through to them is like:wallbanging::snorky: As well as this car there are at least another two Ford Escort and one Ford Fiesta cars to get rid of plus a couple of old minis. The Escorts and Fiesta would probably be good for parts but Mr Kandys sister wants them taken for scrap and any money to go to a nominated charity but getting her to do anything about it is pretty difficult as she can't accept that her parents are not here anymore and as they were both in the cars either as a driver or passenger she can't let go:sad:

This chap is supposedly coming down from Leeds next Saturday morning arriving at 11am with a trailer and some car tools. He has done a DVLA check and says the car isn't on any up to date system.Well it wouldn't be as the car hasn't been anywhere for forty odd years. He is also asking where the front bumper is and does Mr Kandy have an up to date V5C certificate, well no we are sure it hasn't for the same reason as given.Mr Kandy has the log book and original receipt for when the vehicle was bought but that is about it:scratch:

Mr Kandy is going over to the garage tomorrow with his sister and her son to see if they can get the car moving from out of its spot. This should be fun:snorky: I have also told Mr Kandy he needs to sort out a receipt to give to the chap.

I think somehow this isn't going to turn out ok,and I expect I shall be in the firing line if he is let down:sad:

As a precaution he should make a copy of the log book. Also two copies of the receipt signed by the purchaser. The receipt needn't be too technical but should have the purchaser's name and address on it (even if it has to be written in when he buys it) with his signature immediately below the name.

Some detail of the car should be inserted (make and model) and the words 'As Seen' clearly alongside. The 'as seen' bit dumps all the responsibility on the purchaser so that he can't complain that there was something wrong with the car that you didn't tell him.

Don't hand over the log book without having the cash.

I still don't think the man is going to turn up. If he does then also let him see the other cars (a miracle may occur and he might want them :heehee:).

                        Was that:

                        1) A simple DVLA check using the logbook registration number and the make of car Details of the vehicle being checked - GOV.UK , or

                        2) A more complicated check to verify whether there is any registered vehicle with that registration number, etc. ?

That's because somebody else may have ownership of the old registration (which is probably worth more than the car) and a purchaser might be upset to discover after purchase that the registration didn't go with it. Option (2) might need a check for ownership of that registration if it's not currently associated with any registered vehicle.

IMG_0546.JPG Well the car has gone to a new home today:yes:

We wasn't sure if this chap was genuine but after Mr Kandy sent him an email yesterday to see if it was going to happen as this chap said he was picking up a trailer on Saturday and with instructions from Mr Kandy would be coming down from Leeds with his wife.

Anyway,I couldn't go with him as I have a stinking cold at the moment so decided to stay at home in the warm.:snorky: The couple took a wrong turning but a quick phone call soon sorted everything out and they soon arrived at the garage:yes:

Mr Kandy has been home around ten minutes and has been telling me all about it,and the problems they first had trying to get the car moving and then winched up onto the back of the trailer:phew:

After a bit of renegotiation a new price was agreed on and they went off happy with their purchase and Mr Kandy was relieved that he got rid of his car for a good price rather than scrap price.Mr Kandy handed over the log book, original bill of sale plus keys. They didn't want a receipt and we think the cash is genuine and not fake:snorky:

Well done Kandy ... is the money earmarked for anything special ... maybe something in memory of Mr K's father?

I built an outdoor living room (well, t'other half did) with money I got from my m-in-l and my precious car from money from my father .. always a special reminder.

IMG_0548.JPG IMG_0547.JPG Hi @Victoria we hadn't thought much about the money as to be perfectly honest Mr Kandy wasn't 100% sure that it was going to happen and he never set a price just said it was open to offers so to get this much is a bonus especially as the price was dropped by £100 in the renegotians. He would have been happy to get £50 for it:smile:

I suggested to Mr Kandy that we could use some of it in September for a trip on a fast steam train once we find out the rail fair and it is the same week as our WA:Wino:

Mr Kandy sent an email to ask if they were home yet and this is the reply he has just had come through...

PS,Such a shame that I couldn't be there to meet them both but with this horrible cold I didn't fancy standing in a freezing cold garage for quiet a few hours.Even Mr Kandys sister was shivering by the time the car left.We are going to take them out for a meal once I feel a bit better as a Thankyou for their help with the car moving, although Mr Kandy did a lot of it:snorky:

I did say to Mr Kandy that he could have at least washed the Pop before it was loaded on to the trailer:snorky:
