I have the same problem every christmas....

Does anyone know how to make a trifle with jelly where the soaked sponges will actually stay at the bottom of the jelly. No matter how much i soak them and and fruit etc the sponges always float to the top. Is there a special technique?

Can't eat sponge since being force fed it at skool on account of being skinny (teachers couldn't tell skinny from ill, and they were the ones in charge?)

But i'm guessing you construct it in reverse and then turn it upside down?

Ha ha, oh dear-my husband hates trifle because of the soggy sponge.

I like that idea but can't imagine flipping it upside down and it staying it one piece.

Ha ha ha definitely not...and it's vegetarian jelly. The husband might actually eat it if it were luncheon meat. :snork:

Blurgh I couldn't think of anything worse. I actually have a phobia of bananas and don't eat meat.

@Snorky85 I don't use trifle sponges, I buy a plain jam Swiss roll and slice that up, it's slightly heavier than trifle sponges. I then cover the sponge with my chosen fruit and then add the jelly. I then put that in the freezer for a short while to cool it down quickly and it starts to set. If you try this though don't forget to keep an eye on it, if the jelly freezes it will be a mess if you thaw it out.:)
