sorry, something must have gotten lost when the data stream crossed the pond - I was joking.

I don't even want a funeral. Just as you say FC. Buy a round and let it go at that.

That will be me - dopey in charge of a computer; I have got a raging chest infection that is quietly knocking me to bits, so I am not at my sharpest.

As I said my heart goes out to their loved ones. Their families and friends probably did not/ do not lead a hedonistic lifestyle, but will feel the loss as greatly as any parent, sibling or close friend. I maintain that a lot where to young, I agree this is an ageing population, my grandma is 99 in March, but regardless if it was due to lifestyle or not they leave grieving older family members. I'm sorry if I've been controversial, it was never my intention, I was merely expressing an opinion. I know only to well about deaths at this time of the year, I used to be a florist, it was our busiest time.

Can understand her popping her clogs when she heard her little girl had gone on

Well, leave the money for the round in the "Bank" at the Bar, Lori:thumbsup::heehee:

Possibly the "grief" we feel on the death of a Celebrity, particularly if we were a fan, is not so much the loss of the person as rather the loss of the Era, Music and memories that he/she represented.:dunno::scratch:

Just for the record: she suffered a stroke. However, this was not her first; sadly, she experienced two prior to this one. There is a syndrome known as "broken heart", and this may well be a classic case of it? :dunno: The shock to the system, coupled with her own medical history may well have resulted in this news. Whatever: it must be the hardest thing to learn of the death of your own child (no matter how old that "child" might be).

My parents were friendly with another couple. The husband had had a stroke and was wheelchair bound for many years. His wife was in good health as far as anybody was aware.
She died suddenly (think it was a heart attack) and less than a day later the husband died too. Maybe there is a way of just deciding to give up the struggle which his life must have been?

Hmmm, well the 1940s were a bit (only just:)) before my time. "M"s list in indeed a good 1 as I'd have guessed Olivier but he's on her list. My only other guess would be Charlie Chaplin? Maybe he wasn't earning as much in the 40s as he was in the 30s? If this is also wrong (probable!) then you'll have to please give us the answer @Sandy Ground. If it isn't Charlie then I would expect it is an American actor/actress but who was born in Britain like Charlie.

@silu I should have pointed out British born and still living in England. According to various sources, it was non other than George Formby!!!! Unlike many others at the time, he was not only earning from films, but also stage performances, public appearances, song writing royalties and quite a few other areas.
