On 4th January the Sun will be at perihelion [it's closest point to Earth on it's orbit] so it's only 91, 404,322 miles away.............but since the temperature here in Cheshire has stayed around 30f all day, you wouldn't believe it.:dunno::heehee:

The way the weather has been lately, I wouldn't lay money either way! :heehee:

Or, maybe, ... being slightly nearer to the equator ... I'll get the benefit of it :dancy:

There's a phenomenon called thermal inertia. The details are a bit quantum, but the result is we will continue to cool for a while even as more solar energy starts to reach us.

Unfortunately, the meteor showers are notoriously unreliable regarding the number of visible ones and also the usually cloudy weather we get, Linz. I usually, stick to peering at the deep space objects and then get startled when a flash of light crosses my vision:ideaIPB::heehee:

I just relayed your info about the sun being so close to my sister (who's studying astronomy in college as a hobby) and she mentioned the meteor shower, she was saying it starts around 3... it won't be visible to me anyhow :snooze: :heehee:

Nor me, Linz, as the clear skies have vanished, the cloud has moved in and it's raining slightly:dunno::gaah::heehee: So that's my observing down the chute for tonight.:cry3::snorky:

I had that problem yesterday. I couldn't be bothered to put on my thermals before going out. :snork:
