If, as a human, you are feeling "this normally quiet place ... not as pleasant to walk around as before", the first thought which pops into *my* head is: how many of the birds/wildlife will feel the same? :dunno: If they should feel the same, will they then move out in search of quieter places to be where they will feel less exposed/vulnerable? In which case, the café, shop, car park revenue will be at a far greater cost to the natural wildlife and could become ... self defeating?

        Hi All

Yesterday my wife took her mom for lunch and got her the rest of her Christmas box, so I took the Christmas decorations down and packed away. Cleaned the house from top to bottom, mopped the floors and did a tip run. In between this I topped up energy levels with tea, mince pies and chocolate.

Today I an in the shed sorting and making new tool hooks, hanger board for all my tools. Ready to to turn my shed into a bit of a woodwork shop.

          It's actually usable now. I have had to put the bikes back in though as they needvto gob into the other shed, but at the moment it looks like this;

          image.jpg

I need to sort out and then move them into this shed. I will then be able to move mower from garage into tool shed. I also need to make some storage for my plant pots. I have far to many and they take up the whole side of 2nd shed. How does everyone store theirs?

Gosh, that tired me out reading it. :phew: We had lunch with a friend at our river place. We had ham with spiced pineapple, mash and peas/carrots/pearl onions. I prepared it all yesterday and just nuked it there. Lovely day with blue skies and sunshine and good company. Now home by a wood fire having a rum and coke.

I did nothing but huddle up and try not to cough. :)

We have a large shed but pots can take up quite a bit of space. We have about 6,000 (or more) pots and a lot of them are stacked neatly on metal shelving. A lot of the smaller pots (approx. 3.5") are fairly easy as they stack 25 high and sit in pot trays (typical 15 compartment plastic trays that garden centres have their pots in) so that accounts for 375 per tray of 18"x12". Larger pots are just stacked in size order and on different shelves depending on size with biggest on the bottom shelf that has a higher space and on the top shelf that can then reach to the roof.

As we have so many, the ones that are not uniform in size or are too big to be easily managed are put into black bin liners (after being cleaned), tops tied and then placed behind the shed which gives much easier access.

Get a sandwich and cup of tea for this one.:coffee:

My sister lives in Wem in Shropshire, and I take her shopping and out for a meal once a month. Since Christmas Day she's had the really bad chest infection that a lot of people seem to have had and so hasn't ate very well since. So, since she seems to be on the mend, I went to Wem to take her out and took her shopping for supplies that she was running short of. She was also well enough to agree to being taken for a meal which was a good sign. We normally eat at one of three Pubs/restaurants that she likes so off we went. When we get to the first Pub [which does gorgeous home made meals] we find that their Kitchen had suffered a flood and so they weren't serving meals:wallbanging: So my sister suggested another favourite of her's and off we went again. But on the way my sister has a change of mind:doh:and decides she wants to go another Pub that she used to go to with her late Husband over a decade ago which was a short distance of where we were heading anyway.
It's always a bit of a gamble going to a place for a meal that you haven't been to but the Pub looked like one of those typical "out in the sticks" Pubs that seemed to have been there forever. Going inside it was definitely not a fancy place but reasonable and so I settled my sister at a table and went into the room next door to the Bar to order the drinks and see the Menu. The rooms were still in festive mood and had Christmas decorations up.
The Landlord was one of those guy's who's seen all types coming in and very friendly. So I asked him for the menu and he pointed to the wall near me and said it's behind the large bell decoration on the wall. Now this is where I become the Village Idiot in his eyes [which I'm not because I applied for the job years ago and failed the intelligence test:doh:]. So I went to the Bell lifted it up and he looked at me pityingly and said "No, it's on the other side of the wall, opposite the bell." That's when I knew I was "walking" into one of those situations that run off with you.:dunno:
So there I am thinking about reapplying for the Assistant Village Idiots job when my sister appears and the Landlord abandoned me while I'm holding my wallet in my hand and treats my sister like the Queen. She then orders the meal and the drinks because the Landlord has verbally told her the menu [why didn't he tell me:scratch::doh::heehee:] and then my sister goes back to the table leaving me to face the Landlord. So I give him what I thought was an intelligent grin, pull out my Debit Card and say "I guess I'll have to pay you now". He looks at me kindly but still knowing he was looking at the Village Idiot and shaking his head said "No, we don't take cards here, only good old British cash". Oh, B$%*&r, I very rarely carry any real cash around with me and usually meals with my sister cost around £25-£35. So under the gentle forgiving eyes of the Landlord I frantically search my wallet and, unusually, find a £20, £10, and £5 notes:yes:.
So I'm home and dry aren't I??:dunno: Now confident again, I asked him "how much?" while clutching the notes in my hand like cards and he said 9.50. I confess my brain failed me....9.50?? We'd ordered two meals, two sweets, two drinks, and he's looking at me as though I failed the Assistant Village Idiots job again. An eternity seems to pass and then he reaches across the bar plucks the £10 out of my fingers, gives me a 50p, and looks like he's going to pat me on the head, attach a brown paper label with my name on it on my collar, and take me to the table because I might not be able to find it.
The meal was absolutely superb, home made, generous and tasty, my sister actually ate, tasted the food, and enjoyed it all. I told her I wasn't going to come back as the meals were too expensive!!!:heehee: £9.50 for two great meals, two sweets, and two drinks.........unbelievable:doh:. Maybe it was worth being the Assistant Village Idiot:hate-shocked::snorky:....and we will be going back.:heehee:

@ARMANDII those type of places are little gems and are few and far between. :dbgrtmb: They're even non-discriminatory and allow failed village idiots. :heehee:

Not my day, but my son just called me to let me know the trains had got him to work early. On one of his trains there were a couple of ladies trying to take a selfie and failing, so he offered to take the photo for them. They were very happy and he enjoyed their company for the rest of the journey. So, then he tells me:
"They are off to London for a reunion of some sort and were drinking Dom Perignon! Champagne at that time of the morning!!" :hate-shocked:
"What age were they son?" :heehee:
"Must be in their 60s"
"Well, if they can't have a champagne breakfast at their age, when can they?" ;) :heehee:

Cute story. We ran across one of those yummy cheap restaurants in the hills of West Virginia. Unbelievable the low cost, and decent food, good service. Our tip was probably more than she gets in a week.

Today, Saturday, just the usually errands for me. House cleaning done enough for a bit, as it was done for the holiday company. Probably fill the bird feeders later. Sort out my desk, papers get crazy. Snow still out there, but streets are great.

Built a working model roller coaster with CL 1.1

Then went to the park with the family. A football manifested. Kick about ensued.

Then along the beach. Then home.
