I'd forgotten why I never shop at Curry's and was reminded when I went there this morning.

Disinterested staff - and that's being kind.

Went in to purchase a new sd card for my dash cam - they were all standing around talking to colleagues or playing on the IT.

Perhaps if Currys paid more than minimum wage they may get other than monkeys.

I think it could be down to bad management in your local store Clanless, rather than the staff. If they're not trained well then that's the managements fault.

Our Currys staff are always polite and extremely helpful.

I got very poor service at Curry's - until I pushed hard!

I went in to buy a Smart TV. On line they had the best price but when I went into the store they didn't have any. I asked the salesman to check when they were coming in (he was reluctant to do so and wanted to sell me a really crappy TV) and he found out that they were discontinuing them.

So I asked if they had them in another store. "Don't know".

I asked for the manager who was a bit more helpful and checked on their computer that there was one in stock at their Enfield branch 20 miles away.
"Would you like me to ask them to hold it for you?"
"No thank you, I can't lift TV's and want it delivered."
"They won't deliver to you as they are London and we are Essex."
"So get them to put it on the lorry to you."
"We can't transfer stock out of county."
"Please phone your area manager or head office and I'll stand here whilst you do it."
He wasn't happy but phoned his area manager and I overheard both sides of the conversation (I have very keen hearing).
The store manager told him the situation and ended up by say "so I can't do anything about it".
Area manager:- "Get your finger out of your @rse and send one of your staff down to Enfield immediately and pick it up. Your sales figures are poor enough as it is and it's about time you used your initiative."
Store manager to me:- "We'll deliver it this afternoon." :heehee:
"I want it installed and the old TV taken away so make sure you have two men to carry the old TV (42" CRT). Are you going to waive the charge for that as you've messed me around?" (no harm in trying) :snork:.
        "Yes, sir."
Three hours later it was up and running.

I usually use another store (Mains) for all my electrical and household goods but they didn't stock that TV. Their service is always impeccable, which is why I have been buying from them for years.

Agreed with clanless , no one is trained very well at all and forced to sell "insurance" or other bits to go with your item with management watching your every sale. Also correcting you after every sale Was dumped on small appliances because well, I'm a small woman and I "should know how to use kitchen equipment" :mute: Managed to sell larger kitchen equipment but the elders who worked there didn't like that cuz i was "nicking their sales". Its all target driven. Management are a joke too, well in the store I worked and the Cardiff store I "trained" in. It's not slave labour but standing on your feet for near enough 12 hours and having one half hour break which is then stopped by someone saying can you get back on shop floor is a p!ss take. Hated the place.

He was probably new and wasn't trained to check the system...

            That is absolute BS.

Glad you sorted it though, don't take no shyte from them.

Good afternoon shop a lot at Currys and I am mostly happy with thier staff,I prefer to be able to walk round and not be accosted the moment I walk in:dunno: and when I have decided what I want I call a member of staff over and inform them what I want, but I always phone them up before I go, to see if they have what I want in store, regardless of what it says online,I am firm ,curtious and polite and make sure I am knowledgable on the item I want to purchase,it works for me:smile::blue thumb:

Companies pay minimum wages because ... they can! Or rather, instead of being seen as a "minimum", it is mistaken for "the" wage.
I think it is unfair to categorise people on the minimum wage as "monkeys" :nonofinger: the minimum wage reflects on the employER and not, particularly, on the employEE.

They're renowned for being useless and with poor customer service. The only time I go in is to look at the physical item and then order from someone else

I agree that it reflects on the employer. :dbgrtmb:

Unfortunately, it results in the employee feeling resentful and sometimes performing like a monkey. Still the employers fault.

I agree, it can lead to some employees feeling that way (if the "it" refers to minimum wage). However, that also suggests that money is the only factor in employee satisfaction and we both know that isn't the case.
The Manager should still be able to create a positive working environment and be able to motivate the employees into providing the one core thing there are there to do: provide a good level of customer service!

Not the case in the one I worked at sadly, we were all nodding soldiers when it came to his morning "pep" talk which was all about how we were comparing with the other stores in the area, target sales, how many plans we could sell a day and how we needed to push add on sales like mcafee and delivery/installation etc. This was christmas time (2015) mind and I was only a temp.. Thank god! The mood was dire amongst everyone (including people that worked there for a number of years) but we all put on a happy face just for the customers, our pants wage and "cuz it was xmas". I quit on the 22nd of Dec as I thought b*gger this, I wasn't stressing myself over working xmas eve and boxing day with how many things I could sell.
