A Couple of days ago I seen something I've never saw before, A Double Rainbow.

When I seen it I thought to myself,'I'll need to cut down on the Brandy '!.
It was a Fantastic Sight, as I said this is the first Double Rainbow I've ever seen.

Has Anyone Else Ever Seen This Sight ?.

Yep. Many times. But I've never seen a triple though.

Almost all rainbows seen in this country are standard or doubles (we get a lot of them because the sudden appearance of rain or rainclouds whilst the sun is shining. Or a combination of rain and sunshine which occurs frequently. They tend to happen later in the day (don't know why, but may be simply because of our weather patterns) so are more likely to be seen when there are rainclouds to the East and sun to the West.

If you're in an elevated position and there are moist clouds (or mist) below you with clear air above you can even be looking down on them. Here I was only 400ft up but the moist air was below me and the clouds were very dry. As you can see, it was a very barren area but there had been rain earlier on and it was evaporating and remaining close to the ground. By the time the air had risen higher there wasn't sufficient moisture to show a rainbow.

See doubles quite often in my area, sometime see a triple. It's more often in the summer on a bright day when a passing shower goes by.

The red rainbow (unenhanced photo ? ) is strange on the Wiki page . Can you get a sky that colour - without an impending alien invasion ?

@HarryS They explain how it occurs. Not that I'm any clearer after reading the explanation. :dunno:

Do you mean a whole circle rainbow or just one that seems to go from the ground on one side to the ground on the other?

A circular rainbow must be really rare , and you can only see them when flying. Also , obviously no pot of gold at the end of them :snorky:
