Any one know anything about these.
I get really cold feet at this time of year, standing on concrete all day, so I thought I'd get some thermal socks.

Well they arrived today, I bought them on line.

I came home with the usual frozen feet so put them on expecting to have to take them off during the evening.
The opposite has happened, they seem to be keeping my feet cold and stopping them from warming up.

Does this sound normal, I've had to take them off as its getting unbearably cold?

It says on the packet they have a tog rating of 2.3 and a british standard.

    @pete
If you start off with cold feet the socks will keep them cold, just like a cool box, likewise if you start with warm feet they will keep them warm.
If you exercise your cold feet the socks will keep the heat in and they will warm up.

Surely if they are insulating, then the heat generated by your feet should stay in them.

I have thick wooly boot socks that go over my normal socks. They keep my feet nice and warm.

Yeah I thought that as well, but it's not happening.

Right I get the idea but I still seem to think my feet should be generating some heat.

Is your blood circulating well enough in your feet?

That's not as daft a question as it might sound. A lot of people get reduced blood circulation in their feet, especially as we get past our 20s.

Just passing my 20s for the third time, and I must admit that was worrying me, my left foot is always colder than the right one.
Got the odd numb toe as well, but then my right leg has developed a large numb patch just above the knee.

Good to know I'm not the only one that has cold feet.

I wouldn't be worrying per se, but I'd be asking the GPs opinion.

I know loads of people who experience a similar phenomenon. I've had it myself. Very often it's nowt, but it's worth getting checked out.

Yeah I did mention the foot problem back in the summer to my GP, he gave me some tablets which I think actually helped my back pain more than anything else.
He then said my blood sugar was higher than it should be but not actually up to diabetic proportions.
My thinking is the numb spots are coming from my sciatic nerve.
But there is apparently nothing they can do about that.

You're probably, like me, not one for visiting the Local Witch Doctor too often, pete, but it does sound to me that you have a circulation problem..........so maybe some advice from him/her might be needed.
Thermal socks etc work not by creating heat but by retaining heat so if you've got cold feet in the first place which are not creating heat then your feet will stay cold:dunno::coffee:

There is some kind of syndrome that can cause cold hands and feet I believe, a mate of mines wife has it.

Found it, Raynaud's phenomenon - NHS Choices

Could be. Could also be many other things.

I sprained the muscles and tendons in and around my knees last year. My legs were always cold below the knees. Probably the inflammation reducing blood flow past the injured areas.

When damaged muscles repair themselves, they make a mess. Fibres misalign. This can cause tight spots that restrict blood circulation. Deep tissue massage helps break down scar tissue allowing the injury site to heal better and allowing blood to circulate more freely again. Deep tissue massage has been used in sports forever, and it's also popular in Scandinavian countries, but it's not fashionable anymore because the new generation need a new name for an old concept so they can claim as their own. The trendy name for it, if you want to Google it, is myofascial release. Basically deep tissue massage with a massive dollop of marketing and pretentiousness poured on top, but if you cut through the moo poo, the basic principles are sound.

Quite scary to find out you have a syndrome over t'internet.. find it so hard to type sometimes and it really does pain me, especially if I knock them (more so than if I was warm).
